Barrie Robson (York) - Dealer NOT

Same bike for sure. It’s just that someone at BR thinks it’s ok to steal parts off people’s bikes.
Also the response from the dealer to this made my mate feel like he was trying to pull a fast one. There was no apology received and the guy only sent a new one out to”avoid an argument” .
Very poor customer service from a very dodgy dealer.
Over and out.

Wandered in there as my first experience with the BMW brand. Chatting with BR I was on the verge of walking out until my enquiry needed some investigation on the computer system which was apparently beyond the man himself and I was introduced to Kevin.

Great guy, pleasure to deal with / chat to and I happily bought my first BMW from him.

Unfortunately two warranty visits occurred whilst Kevin was off and both descended into Barry squaring up to me in the most threatening manner he could muster. Poor admin girl was more shocked than I was.

The day he retires I'll go back as Kevin was great. In the meantime it's
3 miles to BR
35 to Alan Jefferries
55 to Rainbow
73 to Coopers Sunderland.

Just bought my 4th BMW and would not buy a split washer from BR. My shortage of manners has never got in the way of any of my other 'local' dealers taking my hard earned £1000 pa in servicing alone. They even do it with a smile and free coffee.

How do dealers like this survive? It reminds me Ongar Motorcycles, the Triumph dealer in Great Dunmow, Essex. The guy who owns the dealership is a complete tool, and they don't have a great reputation, but they still survive and retain the franchise, while genuinely good Triumph dealers like Boyer Racing in Plumstead, who gave great service, lose the franchise.

because we still go in and buy from them, no sales = no business.

mr bmw would notice then

BR's is my nearest dealer but the old gits attitude and lack of customer service is beyond belief and I'll never consider giving him any of my buisness (which would have been 2 new GSA's in the last 2 years :augie)

AJ's have been fairly good in my experience so I keep going back however should relations sour there's always Rainbow :D

On my 3rd new BMW and none of them are from BR.
I always go to Jefferies even though Astle and BR are miles nearer.
Jefferies is a lot more attractive as a dealer now they have Suzi on the service desk!
Worth a vist just for chat with her!

They've got to have someone to counteract the other humuorless and unfriendly members of staff :augie

They provide a good (if expensive) service, but it's a very sterile environment

BR not the only tosser of a dealer called in last year and nobody was interested in even talking to me - I tried to buy a bike from Jefferies late last year - I had to do the chasing cos they didnt seem interested.
Salesman said he would have a think about offering me a deal to swap and ring me - that was November and I am still waiting for the call not that they should bother now. I spent the cash on a new car instead.

I bought a bike from BR and I have to say that mostly he was OK (just) - servicing was well done but the smiles were few or non existant - OK I thiugh the guys just a professional - no problem with that - I had occasion to go there about 3 years ago 'cause of a blow out tyre - Sat afternoon and yes he had tyre in stock and yes he could sort it - well done -

When waiting for the job to be done I asked the guy if BR was still in the business - yes he said - I'm BR - that's me - well knock me dowm with a feather!!!!

Everybody has good and bad days - it's just in sales you are not allowed the bad days

Fecking hell, he must have a lot of bad days then it's probably only the days of the week that have a 'y' in them

Well this has been a useful, if somewhat old, thread. I've just been on the phone to Robson's about a bike they have advertised & was surprised at the apparently indifferent attitude of the chap I spoke with, helpful wouldn't be the 1st adjective I'd associate with the man.
He's promised me an e-mail later today in response to my questions, let's see how we get on.
There is a similar bike at Jefferies & they're being very proactive is trying to get the deal done.
There's also one at Balderstones.

It would appear that the answer is staring you in the face.
Personally, I've had a decent service at BR, Martin seems a very decent mech.
Heard rumours that York is getting a larger dealership - not sure if it's BR moving/expanding of A N other

Could certainly do with a 'better/larger/friendlier place this side of the A1

Well, Barrie's come back to me. A swift response. Dunno what all the fuss is about tbh. :nenau

I'll not be buying from him though as the deal b'ain't right.

YOUR ALL WRONG ! ! ! ! ! ! :D. I went to BR when another dealer couldn't fit me in for a service on my RT. Kevin was spot on to deal with, offered me a loaner as mine would be in all day. Even though i was a first time customer.
Yesterday i went and talked to Kevin about a price to change to a new RT SE or a GS TE. He took the time to go through all my enquiries and suggested several things which helped me focus on which one to buy. Totally helpful, not like experiences I've had with other salesmen. I take on board all the other posters comments but can only say he was 100% helpful.

PS, yes I have had the dubious pleasure of trying to deal with Barrie himself on previous occasions, and it wasn't a pleasure :blast

Bought a couple of bikes from Barrie many years ago when he was based in Naburn, and he was a great bloke to deal with.

Bought two more from him after moving to his present location. He was a changed man !!!

In my albeit short experience (18 months living in York), BR et al served me pretty well, swapped my 06 K12S and 06 GSA for a 10 GSA & received what I'd consider an appropriate level of customer service. Sure, Kevin and Martin are a bit different to BR himself but my bike(s) were cared for, the coffee was freeflowing and - importantly - I didn't expect a laugh from BR... I'd go back to the dealership and I'd recommend them to others, with a caveat to give BR as good as you get.
