Just did the in app update in basecamp (win8.1) to 4.3.3 and its left basecamp in a cant start state.
1st error was a Dll is missing msvcr90.dll . There was a few versions hanging around the HD so copied the latest version into system32 which had no effect and then into the basecamp folder . The latter changed the error message but basecamp still wont start.
Will raise a support call with garmin later when I CBA . Ps followed the error advice to reinstall basecamp which I did to no avail. :/

After having a quick google and trawl of other forums its looks like a full uninstall of basecamp and reinstall is the fix (well worked for me at least).

I've also had the same problem.
A little bit concerned as I have routes that I've been planning for our forthcoming trip to Austria.
I assume that these will be lost if I have to re-install Basecamp?

Same problem here. Don't try installing a DLL file off of any old site though, very risky. Tried a reinstall of some Visual C++ stuff of the MS site that was suggested as a fix for the missing file. Didn't work.

In the end I uninstalled the 4.3.3 version that wouldn't run and reinstalled 4.3.2. This is still on the Garmin website (http://download.garmin.com/software/BaseCamp_432.exe) but the link has been replaced with the new 4.3.3 version. All my routes etc. were still there when it started up again. However, I had done a backup of the data before starting the update process. I suggest that you do the same in future (it's in the file menu). It did state that there was a more recent version and did I want to install it the first time I started it, subsequent starts of Basecamp didn't though.

I had the same. Garmin support said that it was a Windows update problem and were no help what so ever.

See if the missing msvcr90.dll file is in your recycle bin. Restore it.

I had to do a system restore to get mine working again.

Thanks Bumpkin.
I uninstalled the 4.3.3 version as you recommended and clicked on your link.
Worked a treat, old software back on with all my routes still there....phew!
Note to self...must do a backup.

Obviously not an isolated case, no doubt they have already been alerted but I've dropped an email to Garmin support drawing their attention to the issue just on the off chance.

I publicly firmly promote and support Basecamp and Garmin to an almost evangelist level and they go and make a fundamental error like this :banghead: Pre release testing of new software is essential.

UPDATE: If you want to install Basecamp 4.3.3 then uninstall the previous version first. Then install 4.3.3. That worked for me, just tried it. All my routes etc were retained but always a good idea to backup before updating anyway and it's easy to do; use File > Backup in the menu from within Basecamp and follow the prompts.

Didn't work for me, stable version of Basecamp v4.3.1 available here...

Cheers Bumpkin, that worked fine. This version has the "curvy roads" option too

Just got my old XP netbook out that accompanies me on tours as we're off the a week on Tuesday. Tired to update Basecamp and found that anything after version 4.2.5 requires Win7+ Can't be bothered to update the OS on that machine so that will have to do.

me too

mine did the missing msvcr90.dll on Friday.
Uninstalled from Control Panel then deleted the BaseCamp (only) folder - normally in C:\program files (x86)\Garmin
re downloaded and installed
All maps routes etc were still there when I ran it. :beerjug:

I just updated my Basecamp from within Basecamp and apart from it also installing a new version of .Net Framework, it all went smoothly :thumb2

As getalife has said: If you get the missing dll error, uninstall Basecamp, delete the Basecamp folder in Programs (x86)\Garmin and reinstall.

As a slight aside to my original post, just looking over the new installed basecamp 4.3.3 and I cannot find the check for updates button anywhere, I seem to recall it was under help pull down menu previously?
