This may get a bit sweary, for which I apologise in advance.

Basecamp is utter, utter shit. It's so full of fucking bugs that I'm amazed anyone uses it at all. I'm been trying to plan routes and trips with simple timings, but the application refuses to accept input for a layover time - it insists on using 0900 as a start time, even if the previous trip or route element ends at say 17:00 and has a layover time of 15 minutes. This makes it effectively bloody useless.

To be honest I'm not really expecting anyone to be able to help, but I really need to fuckingwell get this off my chest. What an utter piece of shit.

Cheers,

Use Mapsource.. don't ponce around with 'layover times' (whatever they are).. make adjustments as you go... easy.

I accept that there is a learning curve and initially I went scurrying back to Mapsource after a 30 minute attempt. A few months later, and admittedly after Basecamp have been upgraded a little, I gave it an afternoon. Haven't looked back since TBH and now prefer Basecamp. Plenty of routes and a couple of tours plotted using it without any issues that I wouldn't have also encountered in Mapsource. Have also used the layover and set the start time to whatever I need, all seems to work for me. Just finished plotting a club group ride using just those features to get an approximate idea of the ETA at the final destination, though I always add on a health contingency.

What platform are you using, Mac or PC, and which version of Basecamp?

BTW, I'm the author of the video that Wapping embeds in the first post of his thread ;)

If you click on the start time a new box pops up which allows you to change departure & arrival times & how long you stay over.

As an alternative - I have always found Microsoft Autoroute far better for planning routes; only ever used Mapsource or Basecamp for transferring waypoints to the satnav.

I've been trying to get into Basecamp and the system utterly frustrates me. For my upcoming trip through parts of Europe, I think I'll just plumb in the destination each day and take what the GPS throws at me.

This thread is bollox :D

plus one. i cannot believe how quickly people give up. Yes, Garmin and their software is not exactly "plug and play" at times, and can be bloody frustrating, but I like Basecamp. It does what I want at least :-)

+1 how did anyone get out of their drive before the electronic hand holding nanny existed.
My Garmin gets used as a rolling map and for when I have be at a specific address. All the other bollox takes all the fun out of riding.
