This month's Ride magazine has a simple guide to DIY route plotting in BaseCamp.

Though basic, it is well explained in words and pictures (screen shots) and is definitely enough to get bods started. In many ways it is better than Garmin's own tutorials.

Unfortunately it does not appear on the Ride magazine website and Ride does not usually feature on the newsagents' magazine racks here in Germany.

All issues of RiDE magazine can be purchased on the Apple Newsstand (including back issues!) if you own an iPad and via Google Play if you have an Android tablet.

No, no iPad. Just an iPhone and Macbook Pro.

Will have to see whether to get a subscription

Are they talking about Basecamp for Windows or Mac, or do they run exactly the same?

But but but ......

That'll mean I have to buy a copy of ride magazine in the supermarket .... :blast

I suppose i could hide the embarrassment and hide it in a copy of Readers-Wives or Razzle ... :nenau

You are a policeman. Nick some spotty yoof for shoplifting and plant the magazine in his possessions. Read at leisure whilst colleagues beat him with truncheons in the back of the van. Everyone wins.

Be 'gay" and proud: I would buy it if I could find it on the shelves here in Germany!

Me too if it was available in Austria. It is all very British to knock such things and, within reason healthy too, but when you can't even get the chance to see them it is a different matter. I always buy several mags when I am in the UK. And I could use a dummies guide to Basecamp myself!

Yes, plus one!! yes, I can use Basecamp, have created routes, and transferred them to my Navigator. But am I doing it correctly or in the simplest manner. I do not think so, if for no other reason that I am obviously using too many 'via point' (or whatever they are called) as the Navi was for ever announcing my arrival at motorway junctions, minor road junctions etc.

This lowly hotel keeper can't afford a "i" anything! But seriously a printed magazine is so much better I feel. I spend so much of my time on a PC or laptop that it is sometimes nice to hold something in my hand. Be over there in 3 weeks time so I expect I will stock up on reading material then.

Try the newsagents in the hauptbahnhof - I could buy jusy about any British or American bike mag in Essen station when I worked in Germany and Dortmund station had an even better selection of English language magazines :thumby:

Paul08, if you shelled up £12 and Simon W (of Ride magazine) did the same you could PM each other and... Bein' a biker n all... Simon might be persuaded to stick you a photocopy in the post or onto a PDF.

But as neither you or he seem happy to splash the cash, that option is closed to you.

I could of course screen save it and lob it up here, but that would be very naughty.

But, worry not, you can buy a one off copy.... Dead easy....

Bloody hell !! I said Bloody hell ..... :rob

Today I suffered the indignity of buying Ride magazine. I averted her gaze at the check - out of sheer embarrassment I couldn't look her in the eye, God only knows what sort of a bloke she thought I was? I think my diversionary tactic of mint flavoured condoms, 7 tubes of Pringles, 40 B&H (even though I don't smoke) and puzzler world 2014 helped though - she even asked if I needed any lubricant which really helped break the ice ....

Phew ... never again though .... and Trixie you tramp ... the base camp article is crap. Pffffft .... to think I went through all that for nothing ... :mooney

Can someone with this issue of Ride photocopy the article, to save anyone else the embarrassment?:P:D

I too called in to Newsagent to get a copy, non on show so scanning top shelf asks shop assistant if they have Ride magazine, she bolts for back office sniggering, eyup John theres a fat bloke out there asking about Jazz Mags you will have to speak with him. How we laughed.:D
