Bash Plate Cleaning

Can anyone give me some advice on the best way to get the engine bash plate clean.

My bike is only a couple of months old yet the plate is looking a little 2nd hand already.

It seems as if it's made from plastic, that the dirt is getting engraved into it.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Its unprotected aluminium and goes megga mankey over time. Because I am a sad git, I take mine off about twice a year and attack it with a rotary wire brush in an electric drill. The give it a good scrubbing with wet and dry, or wire wool or anything else thats lying on the garage floor and finish it off with Solvol autosol, or sometimes Belgum alu when I can find the tub.

It looks nice and shiny for a bit....and then I do it all over again

As per the panzer, but once yer got mega clean, 3-4 thin coats of smooth silver hammerite smooth finish -should allow it to last a year between re coats

Glen - listen to yourself for a moment!! Are you sure you shouldn't have bought that Heritage Softail instead???

I think the clue is in the name. It's a BASH plate. It's supposed to get bashed and look like it.

If you are that fussy try an etch primer and then just spray it with silver paint from Halfords. Even top coat it with lacquer if you are that way inclined.

I don't know how you lot can take the piss out of me for this post. Pot and kettle spring to mind.

I seem to remember my bike looking one the most unwashed when we set off from the Plough on Sunday.

I hadn't spent most of the day before up to my elbows in soap suds....

I saved all that for when I got home.

Go-on Glenwatt get em told .... I went to Edinburgh show at the weekend, p1ssing down, blowing a gale, bloody awful weather and in 130miles there and 130 miles back I past ONE bike (a bloke 2 up on a Pan). My bike is completely covered in cack as well.

Just cos you like em to look nice now and again dont mean to say you dont mind em getting dirty

I took my plate off over 2.5 years ago, paid a fiver at an eng firm and had the whole plate polished to a gleaming finish, sprayed clar laquer on and still looks brill today (forgive the pun)

I must be really sad as i polish my bash plate and then when i wash it just leather it off, polish it every now and then i know really sad.
