Hi
I have a problem with my 97 1100, went to do an oil change but found that I cauld not remove the bash plate because one of the nuts cauld not be removed from the thread, much cursing followed as said nut would not move. I decided that the best course of action was to cut the nut of the thread with view to removing and renewing the screw rubber Fixing that screws into the sump to which the bash plate is then attached to.
I completed the first part of the task and cut the offending nut from the thread thus allowing the bash plate to be removed, now here is the problem the stud that threads into the sump that I need to remove and replace in order to re mount the bash plate seems to have welded into its location I can grab what remains of the cut thread with a pair of strong grips but it will not move. I am useing a lot of pressure to the point where the screw feels that it might break in the sump.
This fixing has had ten years to weld itself where it is, I have tried WD40 but without any joy. Does anyone have any suggestions the only thing that I can think of is to drill the screw out however this would be a last resort.
Any idea's would be appreciated, If the screw has to be drilled out I will probably have to take the bike to a dealer who has a ramp to raise the bike for access.
Regards
Mike
