The silencer on Mrs Berins Basic has this lug on the silencer. Wed always assumed that the silencer was from an ST or something.

However. This parts diagram shows the Basic zorst with that lug

So, is there something missing off the bike that that lug was used for?

On the ST and G/S which, albeit not completely identical, the Basic rear subframe is based on, there is no rearward mount on the exhaust. Looks like BMW used the GS exhaust with the second mount for the Basic - according to the parts diagram. It seems cosmetically odd.

Correct, the basic had the later paralever exhaust, but was essentially fitted with a copy of a G/S mono subframe

So it follows that a G/S or ST silencer would fit and be more cosmetically appropriate on a Basic?

For what it's worth, I had a GS silencer on my ST temporarily and put a blanking bolt and nut in the rear lug, just so it didn't look like something fell off.

The OPs original picture looks like it’s a paralever GS silencer that’s been fitted to the basic.
My basic doesn’t have that rear mounting point, and i believe it’s original.
