I'm getting perilously close to placing an order for a WC Adventure despite promising myself I wouldn't and would get a nice used TC :blast.

Anyhow, I don't really want or need all the electricery of the TE and as I'll be keeping it for 5 years and at least 100,000 miles, resale value is of no importance to me. I'm only going to spec cruise control and heated grips but may go for the riding mode pro dynamic/ enduro and enduro pro as well as no doubt it will get dirty;)

Just a quick question, what is on the standard on board computer?

On my basic vanilla toilet GS you get MPG, Range, ave speed, air temp, engine temp, 2 trips and oil level. What you do not get is the ability to have a digital speedo which I would have liked given the numbers on the normal speedo are fairly small.

Heated grips are I believe now standard on the GSA.

Thanks Paul and sounds like the same as my current GS. Grips are a £230 option but just ordered some KTM heated grips for Jo's KTM 990SMT and they are only £120 fitted.

My mistake - included in the spec for a TE/XE but not the basic.

Although the alternative heated grips may save on price, and be a bit warmer the installation of the std grips is so tidy, you can never retro fit them without buying a new right hand switch assembly. I find mine work OK, better with hand guard extensions fitted.
The instrument display is as Paul S described except fuel. You get two average fuel consumption displays but no instant consumption display. You also get the date displayed. Tyre pressure also if you pay for the TPC.
The suspension is fixed up front and the rear adjustable for spring pre-load and rebound damping, both by easily operated knobs. My only complaint is the spring pre-load has no indicator to show how much its compressed. My old GS 650 and R1150 had a set of bars on the screw adjuster showing soft/hard which was very useful.

Go for the XE no tyre pressure monitors or Full LED lights /Alarm . Love mine .It'll take the mileage ................................If Carlsberg built WC GSA's :D

I think you'll really reap the benefits of the riding modes. If yer gonna do your american trips on it, Dalton Highway and that malarky, I think it's a no brainer. ('cos you'll be using the bike as God intended unlike 90% of the GS riders). :thumb2

You can however see your current speed digitally. Also, if you have the Nav V installed, you can also set the Navigator to display only the speed digitally, fullscreen.

The display must be different in SA. In the UK there is no option on the basic LC to display speed on the screen.

I am testing the gsa this week but I doubt any dealer will have a demo of less than te spec and they are not clued up on the basic model (couldn't tell me what the computer did and if it had one) - or perhaps they do not want to sell them as they make less profit on a basic.
I would rather not have all the electronics and if the suspension is poor it is still cheaper to put a good quality replacement set on than specifying esa.
It appears the basics computer has the same functions as the one on my gsa tc which is more than sufficient for what I need.
I reckon a basic with heated grips, panniers and rails , led indicators , hand guards and spot lights would be ideal and then get Maxton to alter my gsa tc shocks to fit

By the time you've done all that, wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to get a TE?

No still cheaper and you appear to be missing the point I do not want all the extra electronics which will inevitably go wrong a few years down the line and out of warranty.
Compare the price of an esa shock it is cheaper to get a full set of rebuildable custom built shocks which could easily out last the bike

Good point.:thumb I forgot that some people keep their bikes longer than 5 minutes!:P

That's my reasoning for speccing a basic WC with just the bits I want. When the standard rear shock goes at 32,001 miles and warranty reject the claim, I'll call those fine people at Kais for nice Ohlins.

Rider mode is a must though and I've been talked into that option. Just waiting on conformation of delivery before I hit the button as I'd like to take it around Yellowstone in September :)

Either way you go you will love it .just rode mine home from a late surgery and it is the best Bike I have ridden ! The lights are awesome and it just pulls so well !! Love it :D
