I am looking to buy a 2nd hand 2013/2014 GS in the next few day but am concerned that the battery might not hold a charge for long, especially if there is an alarm fitted. I had a 2004 GS that lost its charge within days and had to live on an optimate. I can't use a trickle charger as the lead isn't long enough to reach from my 5th floor flat. I know that riding it is the ideal answer, but even as a retired gentleman of leisure living on the Costa del Sol that isn't always possible. I will have the alarm removed if necessary, which might help. Any thoughts?

Buy a motobatt battery for it. Or solar charger if your in the sun 😉

with no alarm draining the battery a decent AGM one (like Motobatt, Exide, Odyssey, Westco or Yuasa) will stay charged for a few months at a time. This was the case with a R1150GS stored at my mum's house when I lived in Cardiff and with my Super Tenere during an illness when I was not able to ride for a few months. The R1150GS had a Hawker Odyssey fitted and the S10 had the factory fitted Yuasa. Both AGM type batteries.

Just make sure the battery has a full charge before you lay it up for the winter bingo season or the summer melting season (a friend that lives north of Malaga won't ride in summer as it is too hot).
