I want to put my RT on a trickle charge and the manual states that I need to connect the plug to the charging socket if the battery is to remain connected to the bike. I have an Acumax 900 charger which I used to charge a K1200S I used to own by connecting the crocodile clips to the battery terminals without disconnecting the battery. I never had a problem with the K12's electrics doing it this way but the RT's manual states that I must disconnect the battery if I want to charge it directly from the charger. The crocodile clips are connected to the charger cable by a plastic snap connector.

I was wondering whether I could get a Din plug with a snap connector so that I could still use the Acumax or whether I need to buy a BMW charger?

What does BMW think is going to happen if you connect the Accumate directly to the battery? Apart from some electrons being stored in the battery cells?

BMW are a business that wants to make a profit - they will try to convince you to buy their special, magic charger just like they want you to buy their special magic oil.

Electrons are electrons. Your battery does not give a fuck where new ones come from and the Accumate will stuff them into the battery at a rate much lower than your alternator when you are blatting down the motorway at 70mph.

No problem putting a lead on the battery. I took the battery out of mine to put a lead on to run my emergency tyre air compressor because the amperage is too high to use the aux sockets. I actually bought a new Optimate Canbus charger so I could use the aux sockets but that was because my old charger died. There is no need to take the battery all the way out to put the lead on. I did but then realised that its not necessary. The terminal you see is the negative, the positive terminal on the battery is hidden. However look to the right of the battery and you will see a remote positive terminal use that and you do not have to take the battery out. Hope this helps.

Correct. Use a pigtail to the battery and any tender you want.
