Anyone got a sensible suggestion for a GOOD and reliable battery charger for a bike, I have an Oxford Opimate 3 that kills battery's if left on for more than a day or two, so would like something that I can leave on long term, thanks in advance!!:thumb

Something not right there. I've had an optimate 3 for a couple of years with 2 or 3 bikes and it works great. Designed to be left on and monitor the battery. Don't like to sound cheeky but is it wired, connected correctly?

My bikes are all permanently connected to Optimate 3's for years without any problems. Either yours is faulty or it's not connected correctly!

Ian, I have to keep 12 bikes charged and I have tried a few chargers. Optimate (which I am not sure are by Oxford) has been fine. I dropped one and that killed it immediately. I suffered a number of Ctek because I have some AGM batteries and three failed with the mode switch no longer changing modes. I received no help from Ctek who did not offer a repair out of warranty. I have found Oxford Oximiser 900 reliable and have six. Cheap if you look around, I even bought a second hand one on here. Please bear in mind I know sweet FA.:beerjug:

Lidl battery charger £13.99 with three year warranty.

To be honest with you. I sometimes think it's better to let the battery run down a bit, and not leave it on charge all the time. This afternoon , started my kawasaki for the first time in nine months, shook it around to mix the petrol with what bit of water that may have been at the bottom of the tank, turned the petrol on , and kicked her in the guts. A couple of cranks, and she was purring like a good un. Same with the GS. Not used it for nearly 3 months , first press of the button, and she's away. No charger on either. The battery on the Kawasaki is about 5 yrs old, but in fairness I did fit a new Moto batt to the BM last year. A quick run round , and they are charged and ready for the year.:thumb

I used an Oxford Oximiser over the winter on my Motobatt battery. Flat as a fluke when I come to use it.
Tried a Motobatt charger left over 4 or 5 weeks, same result.
Whether the battery is goosed I don't know but less than a year old.
