Just a quick one- Does anyone know whether the battery for the R1200RT '05 model, is the same as the battery for the later models?.

It seems that a lot of parts and accessories fit the '05-'09 models but then there is a clear difference between the parts/accessories for the 2010 models onwards, however i can't find a definite clear answer for the battery. It could be that they have changed from 05 to 06 to 07 etc etc.

I looked into it a while ago but the supplier said something about no listing for that model and then glazed over when i mentioned Can Bus wiring etc.

I forget all about it after an Optimate sorted the battery but the issue is back again.
Any info appreciated. Thanks.

My 2005 Rt, still on it's original battery is fitted with the GEL type battery, I am not too sure if they later moved onto the AGM Absorbed Glass Matte battery.

Most people go for the aftermarket Odyssey type battery readily available.:D

Are you after the BMW one?

What type it is doesn't matter one iota.

All that matters is the physical size and possibly the terminal type so you can bolt it straight in with no mucking about with poles or lead length.

12v and the highest amp hour you can find......if it's on an RT tourer, spending extra dosh on a gel or AGM battery is pointless IMO......those are great if you expect to lay the bike down often (Gel and AGM do not leak when upside down) but a simple lead acid sealed battery will do perfectly on an RT.

Don't fall into the brand name trap either :blast

I don't know....that's the answer to the original question though :augie

Look up each sort on a site that sells them and it should also tell you the dimensions and pole arrangement.......job done :thumb2
