I did not ride my Wasserboxer for 6 weeks due to illness and it started first time when I went to ride it. Then did 200 miles one afternoon, parked up without battery tender for 7 days ,and bike would not start.......what's typical?

Check battery terminals.
Stick a multimeter across the terminals of the battery and see what readings you get BEFORE starting, WHILST starting and then when it's running, at about 2K revs or when warmed up properly :thumb

PS your wife should see a Doc is her discharge is unpredictable......It could be her age or her hormones, but it's best to get her checked out or at least slap some yoghurt on her :comfort

If it's a brand new bike, that had been left on an Optimate (which gave it a basic standing charge for six weeks) and was then run OK for 200 miles ... but is now dead... I would bet on duff battery, that will not hold its charge from the alternator. Even a new GS battery should hold its charge for seven days untended.

My new bike (make and model immaterial) had an identical problem. A new battery under warranty sorted it out... after recovery from 120 miles from home back to London.... 120 miles knocked off with no problems; only on attempted restart at Mildenhall, when the bike had zero (as in nil, feck all, zip) electrical current and about five volts did the (very) dead battery manifest itself.

Leave the battery in the bike. Connect a good slave battery to it via jump leads. Use your car, it won't blow up. If the bike starts and runs it's the battery. Disconect the slave battery, if the bike dies in seconds, it's the duff battery. Failing all that, call BMW Recovery... you have paid for it, so use it.

Have you a Sat Nav other than the standard Nav connected to the bike?
I had/have a Zumo 220 that with the original cable and connected to the plug below the headstock would draw a current even when it appeared to be off. The problem was solved when Garmin sent me an updated cable unit. This happened on my 2010 GS. I have subsequently fitted this unit and cable to my LC with no battery drain.

My wife has reached that age in life when on a bike tour and asked to be mounted by 8 for an early start she flatly refuses. A bit like my battery.

Just a few years ago mounting before 8 was a pleasure for an early start on tour.

The bike is in for service this week if I can get it started. Thanks for the advice. My wife asked if you can really get insurance as teenagers to ride GS's.:D

No.

Our big secret though is that we're all 40 somethings with 8 yr old brains :augie

Apart from Y2B, who's 14 with a 30 something brain :blast

That explains why your willy fell off Richard.

Remind me to tell you the story (the stuff of legend at Finchley RFC) of Newt, the dose of crabs and the large pot of natural yoghurt, kept in the fridge.

As I was fortunate enough to be playing for Finchley at the time, knew Newt and the several others involved, so I know it is true.... I should write a book to rival Wilt....

Chapter One... Of Newt and crabs

Chapter Two.... The long coach journey, the very large bucket of piss and the unfortunate Dutch customs official

Chapter Three... The chicken and the curious tale of the missing teeth

Chapter Four... In which our part time hero (me) farts with considerable gusto in the face of Nursing Sgt Jane X who was administering unto his battered body

Chapter Four... When our part time hero (still me) was obliged to make a flit from the tender care of Her Majesty's Forces on the Rhine (or more accurately Berlin) and their surgeon's bill....

Happy days.
