Battery Light On All the Time

Hello,
Looking for some advice here, I've checked previous threads and no joy.
Started the bike by means of a jump start the other day, went for a spin, on the way home the battery light came on. Tried it tonight and she starts ok however the battery light is still staying on! Alternator?? Battery?? I really havent a clue here. Its a Hawker battery if thats any help.
Any help greatly appreciated.

It`s sounding like your alternator....but have you checked the alternator drive belt ??

I also notice my clock clok zeros every time i start!

tarka means Check the belt hasn't broken.

I aksed a similar question a few months ago. My clock kept resetting (but the bike would always start)

The answers I got back were

1. Could be the battery
2. Could be the plug socket is corroded across the terminals
3. Check the wiring for any short circuits.

My plug socket was completely corroded so I cleaned it and solved the problem for a couple of months

My battery light is now coming on again and clock reset on Monday so it may be time for a new battery.

DRIVE BELT

On recent trip to picos. clock kept reseting.abs was not setting.battery light came on and stayed on. battery eventually went flat.have a adv with 17000 on clock and the drive belt was shreded but still on.should last at least 60000 i am told.garage diagnosed generator.CHECK the belt first.

If the light comes on .. it means STOP riding and fix the problem .. before the fault takes out something else.. like the battery ... The light is coloured red for a reason ... if it was the oil light would you keep riding?

Check the belt. That is easy. Would be the easiest fault to fix, and the most probable. Tightening the belt .. bit harder .. but you'd be able to do it at least to the stage where it would function. If you don't know how tight it should be .. well if turning the belt by hand lets it slip on either pully then it is too loose...

All the handbooks/workshop manuals/service schedules say change the belt at 36K miles.

Lots change it before.

No. I've had this problem and solved it. You need to ride for a good 10-15 minutes if you keep main beam on. Anything less the alternator can't make up for the juice taken for start-over.
