Battery on warrenty or not?

Recently its been a little tricky to start (12GS) its not quite fired first time, sometimes not on second either, takes 3 goes to get it started, its slow at turning over as well, think battery is on its way out (BMW one)

I was under the impression batterys are consumable items and not covered by the BMW warranty, but i saw on one thread (can't find it now) that someone did claim for a battery

Your battery is indeed covered under the BMW warrenty, I've had a couple replaced on previous GS's (one only 1 week before the warrenty expired)

The original manufacturer's warranty, which is near enough all embracing, ran out sometime in 2008.

In all probability the bike is now under some sort of insured warranty, which will be subject to assorted Terms, Conditions and Exclusions. Batteries, if indeed yours is on its last legs, may well be classed - like brake pads - as a consumables and excluded.

Read the terms of your warranty and / or contact the dealer who sold you the warranty.

You may end up looking like a complete Turk if you bowl into NOG brandishing "Yes, it's covered" only to discover that the bods who said, "Yes it is" are riding newish bikes, well wthin the manufacturer's warranty.

Of course your warranty may cover batteries. If so, then at least you will know and be able to perhaps get a new one.

Yonkyo, may well have said as much in his post, referring to 'the BMW warranty'. What we have seen though is some punters getting confused between the original manufacturer's warranty (BuMW's) and a subsequent BuMW branded warranty, available after two years. I think, tunnie, you might well be falling into the latter category.

d'oh sorry should have mentioned it was 56 plate bike, I'll dig the paper work out now, hence my reason for posting, when i was chatting with Steve at NOG, i recalled him mentioning batterys not covered. Its got the standard BMW warranty you get on a USED bike when you buy from them

A warranty on a part like a battery would come under a manufacturing fault.

If it's a couple of years old it's unlikely to be a manufacturing fault.

There's an easy way to save £15 quid there, somewhere.

Or ring around to see if you can find a suitable battery cheaper or on-line.

Thought: With all the money UKGSer is saving you, let alone the oceans of advice, maybe £12 in the collection box might be appropriate?

No, a battery is a battery

Except when it's an oddity (sic) battery, when it seems they burst into flames...... having been shorted by the rod across the front of the seat, allegedly.

Still, never mind, insurance will pay for the fire

So no need to worry about the warranty, the book for which will probably be lost in the same all consuming conflagration anyway.
