greetings fellow 1200gs riders,
Since this is my first post it is one brought about more in desperation than anything else.
Having laid the gs up for 5 months and left it on BMW's expensive trickle charger I find to my dismay that it wont start.......when I switch on the ignition all I get is just a clicking sound.
The charger indicates that the battery is charged and the lights come on but apart from that .......nothing.
My question is is the battery at fault or should I be looking at something else...starter relay.....starter motor etc. The bike has only covered 2000 miles from new so I am not really expecting any mechanical or electro mechanical problems.
If anyone can shed some light on this problem I would be very grateful.

my guess is the battery is shagged.

take it out & get it tested.

Just been having drama's with mine. Left the bike for 2 weeks and came back to find it dead, put it on the optimate, refitted it when the charger said it was full, still not enough to start it. Bought a new battery and fitted that, left the bike for 10 days but took the battery off to make sure. Got back and stuck it on the charger for an hour. Put it on the bike and nothing again:mad:, took the 'new' battery back to the shop where they tested it and it came up as 'bad cell'. Got another one as it was under a 2 year guarantee. Think it was the optimate overcharging the battery's as both were ok until I put them on it.:spitfire, strange thing was it wouldn't even jump start from the car with a f~~ked battery on:eek

Hi

I am also on my third battery and its a 2007 ADV with only 5000 on the clock.

The first one was replaced after the addition of the TC and first service (1000km), I went to collect the bike and it would not start, so they replaced it without checking or explaining why.
One week later I had to call the bike shop out to my home at six in the evening after trying to start the bike, and all i got was the "Clicking".... I was about to ride to the UK the next morning from Switzerland (luckily I tried to start it then). They picked up the bike and returned it at 11pm after replacing the battery and explaining that they had to reload some software as "something??" was continually draining power from the battery even when switch off.

Anyone have a similar response from BMW??

are you guys with problems switching the bike "off" when you leave it? As in turn the key all the way to the steering lock position.

Why? is something being powered when the switch is in the 'Off' position that isn't powered in the 'locked' position?:nenau

I believe so, - read it here somewhere from one of these old experienced tossers! Always turn mine fully off.

Always did that and mine still went flat, record was 2 days.
Now if I can't trust the original battery, why should I trust a new one of the same.

So bought one of these after good reports on here, never had a problem since :thumb2
