Hi there. Does anyone know if the battery for a twin cam GS 1200 is the same as the twin cam 1200 Adventure ?
Ta

I'm getting 2 different part numbers.
Mine is 61217708614 and the std Gs seems to be 61218520153.
Any differences between the two. Someone is selling a new one for a Gs 12 on fleabay but don't want to buy if if it's different. Same engine so I'm assuming same battery.

I think the Adventure battery is smaller but you have to add the compensating plate so the top/terminals are in the same place, the standard GS one is a little higher. I have just done the recommended and bought a Motobatt instead !

Could be a bit of confusion because I think the single cam models had a bigger battery than the TCs. My 09 RT had a 19Ah battery, whilst my 12 GSA has a 12Ah one.

just don't buy off sparesunlimited on e bay. They sent me a returned (marks on it and package opened) MotoBatt. Being sensible I tried it. It failed and they wanted to organize a courier to collect. They could not have been more disorganized. Anyhow, after 3 weeks faffing, I posted it back as they were threatening theft etc. Then the tards wouldn't refund postage. Spares Unlimited, yprkshire based e bay shop. AVOID

Not just you , it would appear!

Read the first customer review. Looks like someone else who doesn't do themselves any favours.

+1 Motobatt, just fitted MBTX12U to my 08 GSA, dropped straight in (needed to use spacer plate supplied, just clips bottom of battery), replaces BMW Battery part No 61217705652 (marked as an Exide ETX14-BS). I purchased from Busters (eBay) or M&P as same company. Very good service, delivery text telling me when to expect items etc.

The MotoBatt MBTX12U, which seems to be a Chinese made item very similar to the much more expensive Odyssey battery, seems far better value currently and by all accounts easier to fit in on an R1200GS because the dimensions of the battery are closer to the OEM part and do not require as much fiddling to install as the Odyssey. Just ordered mine now from Busters (same company as M&P) on Ebay.

I thought Motobatt came from S America ?

I fitted a 2nd hand Odyssey from another tosser. I fitted it back to front then the positive lead loops over to the terminal with no fancy fitting plate needed. Negative lead is doubled back and it all looks original. I also tweaked the tie down strap so that's now a one piece.
