If you are thinking about an Optimate AND a half decent battery you can get a LiFePo bayberry for about the same money or not much more.

Very small, High CCA, No damage if left unused for long periods. Loses only 10% charge in a year. Can discharge to dead flat without damage. Does not need a maintenance charger.

I have an optimate had it for about12years , was worried about using it on the gsa with the canbus system but the mech in the shopmsaid if you connect it straight to the battery it would be fine . And upto now it has

Are you sure about that ?

I was under the impression that taking them below 2.5v per cell damaged them.
