I am trying to fit a trickle charger lead to my 1250 GSA and I cant get the battery to go back into the box far enough to get the battery box door to locate. The problem seems to be the positive lead at the back is stopping it. Any tips on how to do it or pics to route the main cable. The best idea would be to feed it back out the far end of the box, but it doesn't seem to want to move and I cant see the other end to pull it.
Any ideas??

Thanks

Nigel

You put the positive lead of the trickle charger on the RED plastic covered screw on the right of the battery.............

Edit: Smogbob beat me to it...

Hi Nigel,

What are you trying to do? Add an SAE lead that your trickle charger will connect to? If so, you may have made the mistake I made (here.

Why did you take it out?, you can get onto both + and - from the RHS cover... have you connected to the posative on the battery itself?.. if so, this may be why it wont go back...

If you have had the battery out it may appear that it will not got back in far enough to fit the cover that goes on before replacing the side panel. This can be misleading due to the unnecessarily complicated way this has to be fitted. This was the case with both my GS's even when the positive lead at the back of the battery box was properly orientated and located as far out of the way as possible.

It took me a couple of goes to get the hang of this but the hard plastic battery box end cover (not the side panel that fits over it) has a peg on the bottom edge and pegs on each side which go into corresponding slots in the battery box. The problem is that the peg at the bottom has to go into a hole in the bottom of the battery box that is at least partially obscured even when the battery is pushed fully home. What you therefore have to do is tilt the battery up (there is just enough headroom to do this) then locate the lower peg but make sure you then tilt the cover inwards to locate the side pegs in their slots before sliding it down into place.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Amadeus and Fred, I searched on here first under battery and didn't find your thread Amadeus which is a shame. I even measured the depth of the box and size of the battery and there is 15mm extra for the positive lead. I found the answer is to lift the battery, that then means you can get the bottom peg of the battery box door into the right place. I did see the other terminal with the red cover to the right of the battery box but didn't realise that is what it is for and I wasn't going to experiment due to the can bus system. I will be fitting a USB socket under the seat soon so will use the positive terminal outside for both.

Thanks again

Top tip. While you have those flimsy plastic covers of, tiewrap (1mm size) the little grommets in place that secure the cover. They do have a habit of coming loose and disappearing when you install the covers.
