Had a bizarre fault last week. Here goes....

Took the bike out for a spin and on the way back popped into my local dealership. I had just turned the bike off and for some reason used the kill switch. I then had to restart the bike pretty much straight away but nothing.......

Checked the usual of sidestand and kill switch but still nothing. All it would do was flash the display and them die completely.

To cut the story short..

The dealership put the bike on charge but this did nothing so they ended up changing the battery under warranty and touch wood it's been okay since. What does concern me is I still don't know what caused the battery to fail and I have a touring trip rapidly approaching.

Anyone got any ideas? :nenau

Aye up, mine does that sometimes but nowt to do wit battery, turn ignition off and kill switch, turn all on again and let go through it's thought process, hey presto, it starts. I don't think it's a problem as such, just the clever things sortin themselves. I have put one of them there Odyssey ones on as a general replacement, all seems ok. But then I do tend to touch wood a lot.
Cheers.:thumb2

sounds like sudden death of the battery, and bmw gave you a new one. problem solved.

i don't believe it had anything to do with the kill switch, and wouldn't worry.

tailspin, this has happened to my 2007 bike twice, first time it was collected and replaced under warranty. Second time I had to pay for the pick up and a new battery as warranty was over 2 weeks before.

Both times there was no warning, no battery fault warning, just no electrical power. Luckily I was at home first time and close to home second time. In a country where there is only one BMW bike center its scary. BMW told me simply a flat battery, but why no warning and why could I not jump start the bike???
