I wanted to know what links were ok to use so the info you have all kindly supplied gives me the starting point I was looking for. The Dyno run will be in Whitchurch, Shropshire at the end of January, I'll post the results as soon as I have them.

I'm still trying to find out if there is an ignition pulse to the diagnostic plug or where best to take the pluse from - sorry if I'm repeating myself :)

You should email Bernhard Bludeau (Mr BB himself) if you have any queries. I had the BB chip in my 1100 and it was excellent. However, as Cookie says, there are different configurations of jumper for different 'generations' of chips. There were 2 different sets of jumper configurations for the 1100 depending on how old the chip was. GFod only knows how many different combinations there are for the 1150.

Go here http://www.bbp.homepage.t-online.de/indexe.htm

You can contact Bernhard from this page.

mr BB was one of the people i asked about the bmw map accessed by the steptoe link being the same as on his chip. he didn't answer :D

make what you will of that :nenau

Fergus, thanks for that. I don't have a BB Power chip but according to one of Steptoe's posts bridging the different terminals has the same effect on the standard BM' set up. For example the low octane plug that is supplied by BMW just links different terminals thus changing the fuel injection / ignition mapping.

Now I have the bridging combinations I can get the bike on a dyno and see what the results are.

I'll keep you all updated.

A minefield indeed.

Maybe come at this from a slightly different angle.
My gut feeling is that the chances of the jumper diags from BB matching those of OEM BMW chip are slim, other than by accident - there are only so many combinations available after all). Remember the jumper selects maps burnt into the chip. If there are eight maps in a BB chip how many are in the BMW chip?. Maybe a survey of the different cat code plugs supplied by BMW would shed some light on this.
You need to take care that there are different models involved (1100, 1150, twin spark etc etc) there may even be variations within model types :nenau. I am sure you realise this; but some of the info I have seen floating about on the net leads me to believe that other people haven't taken this into account.

I agree with Cookies comment about letting BB do the donkey work ;)
However, if you're prepared to put in the time to do the dyno work - then I'm all ears.

All this is the whole point of spending some time on the dyno. I intend to run it with the original cat code plug fitted, then removed, then with Steptoe's link, then try the other links as per the BB Power diagrams. I will however stop if I find a setting on the way that is close enough so the results posted may be minimal or comprehensive......... We'll see :spitfire
