[Ex-Call Centre Chimp]

Did a couple of programmes last night WW1 related.

Starting at 2100 hrs with an excellent programme about the Somme tunnels, followed by Michael Palin at 2200 hrs with a prog. about soldiers who died on the last day of the war (I think, not watched it yet) & then at 2300 hrs by an hour featuring aerial photos of WW1.

If you're interested you'll probably be able to get them on Catch up or I-player or whatever it's called these days.

Yes, I thought the Peter Barton one about the La Boiselle tunnels to be particularly interesting.
I will pay it a visit on my annual trip to the Somme.
P.B's enthusiasm makes it even more interesting...if you have a chance of reading his book ' First day on the Somme' do so...

Saw the Somme Tunnels programme. Amazing that the tunnels are still there and accessible. Strong contrast with the little that's to be seen above. Would love to spend some time in the private woodland area at La Boiselle where the tunnels were filmed.

I thoroughly enjoyed the programme. Surprised they didn't think about finding & exhuming the bodies of the 2 soldiers?

If you're in the area the tunnels at Vimy are well worth a visit.

Just a thought Timaloy but by leaving the bodies in situ the area will be considered a war grave and therefore cannot be built upon. I was thinking of a few years back when there was talk of extending the housing estate next to the Glory Hole. I could of course be completely wrong!!

Must admit I hadn't realised that Andy. Seems as good a reason as any.

There was also an excellent programme on Channel 5 at 2000 hrs. yesterday about the war around Messines. Part 2 next week.

Again, worth a watch on catch up TV.
