I've got a mate who's moving business premises.

He still runs his invoicing & order system on a BBC micro.

He's also just paid £250 to buy a dot matrix printer from the US, as he says that's what the pc uses and it was the only place he could get it from.

Now, shouldn't he be able to run the BBC dos program in a dos window on the super wizzy pc with windows XP and broadband that also makes the tea in the room next door?

I appreciate that XP doesn't use dos as such, so would running it in a dos box in Win98 work?

Granted he might need a pc bod to transfer it over, but what other issues would there be?

A beer and curry (for me) rests on the answer being yes..............

You can claim your curry Jon.......there are several BBC emulator progs out there.....I tried one a few years ago after finding a site with al my old favouruite BBC 'b' games on it (remember 'Elite' anyone??...get those Thargons!)

You can run any BBC programme in pretty much any windows PC by using one of these emulators...I think the one I used was THIS ONE

PS That's a peshwari naan and a cobra thanks ;)

Dare Devil Dennis

Had a certain charm to it and Defender took some beating...

Cheers boys!

When he said he'd spent £250 on a dot matrix printer, amd from the US, I nearly dropped me pint :D

I shall investigate more and give him the good news.

The problem is, whilst I know I only know a little bit about pc's, he also knows a little bit about pc's, but doesn't realise how little :D

Ahhhh - Elite. I'll never forget that game. I was working in a pc/photo shop at the time it came out. Some guy bought his back cos he said it didn't work.

Let's have a look, says I, give us your disk and we'll put in our BBC and see what's up.

So he casually reaches into his back pocket and removes the 5.24 inch floppy (remember them), and carefully unfolds it from the quarter that he'd folded it into........................
