We arrived back yesterday from our 2009 tour to Italy, Austria and Switzerland - 4 days in the Dolomoites and 3 days in Livigno.
A very full picture laden report will follow on the BBOT web site, probably in about a week. When I tell you that there are over 500 photos to edit, a variety of tracks and track profiles to put on Google earth etc, you will, I'm sure, appreciate that we intend to do a good job and not some quick slapdash effort.
However I can give you some outline stats.
There were 8 riders.
3 rode out and flew back from Brescia.
5 flew out to and back from Brescia.
The bikes were taken over and brought back by this firm: http://www.chasmortimer.co.uk/
We rode 40 separate passes. Of these we rode 35 for the first time.
Those who flew out and back covered about 1,360 miles.
Those who rode out and flew back covered about 2,200 miles.
I could not count the hairpins. Since personally I covered 47 passes (some more than once) I would be surprised if I did less than 1,000 hairpins.
Anyway here are just 5 photos to wet your appetite:
This is the Grossglockner pass in Austria
The same pass but looking down
The Stelvio from the Bormio side looking down
The Gavia looking up with Corno dei Tre Signori on the Left
The Gavia at the summit with the lake and Corno dei Tre Signori in the background
