... Following on from the ACF-50 thread, here's a nifty little thought

... WHATEVER you spray your bike with, to ward off the evils of salty winter roads, this might save you a wee bit of bother.

... BEFORE squirting merrily over your steed, wrap the brake discs and calipers with cling film to keep the squirty shit off the stoppers :rob

... Piece of piss and it works :thumb

that is a good good tip.

When I'm applying to the wheels/spokes I spray the acf-50 onto a rag of cloth and wipe around, a lot less messy then spraying, i believe

... I'm more into the labour saving spray and pray approach :augie

... The cling-film doesn't only protect when spraying ACF50 or FS365 on the wheels, it also protects the brakes from the 'ricochet' droplets when you spray the rest of the bike, such as the swing arm, rear sub frame, telelever and forks.

Great tip and so obvious. I have experimented with odd shaped cuttings of cardboard etc and even carrier bags! (Doesnt make me a bad person, just different!)

So cling film it is from now on.

:clap

I just drape quite a large microfibre cloth ( sold as a pet towel) over the caliper and around the disc . The cloth catches all the drips and also soaks em ep.

Every body talks about " when they spray ACF50 " i have used it for years and
Never had a spray ( spray like mist i mean ) the stuff comes outa the can like
Pink foam, is it only my cans that do this? I HAVE to spray it into the lid and put it on with a brush:blast

It sprays better if it's been in a nice warm house than in a nice cold garage. It has to be all or nothing too. Don't be trying to do a little bit here and there. Cover the bits you want to cover and hold the button down.

Your problem is in bold. You are using old stock. Newer cans actually spray out a liquid. I think they changed about 18 months ago.

i use a bit of care. not much, it has to be said.

just don't squirt it on the brakes :nenau if you do it's not the end of the world, wipe it off :blast

I always assume I have got it on the disks; after squirting ACGF-50 evrywhere I clean them off with Brake and Clutch Cleaner, takes seconds - why take the risk :nenau

Newspaper.
Broadsheets wrap and scrunch nicely around discs and calipers. Soaks up any careless spraying rather than collecting it for onward smearing like clingfilm.

While applying the said newspaper, stand the ACF50 can in a bucket of boiling water - sprays like a dream.

Why don't the bikes come pre sprayed in this wonder oil when new? It would save BMW loads of money on warranty claims and people wouldn't have to faff about wrapping their bikes up in cling film

charles hurst do it to new bike before they build them- well if you ask them to and give them £25, you do get to keep the left overs in the can

and then when you've finished with the cling film....

And then when you've finished with the clingfilm, sneak into the toilet and cover the bowl with it, and then laugh heartily at all the silly buggers wandering out of the loo with piss stained trousers, remembering of course not to laugh at the big fcker with the harley and the baseball bat

Don't get carried away with that cling film now......
