Real world riding: what should a 35000mile R1100GS with a remus and Y piece be capable of in terms of BHP and MPG?

I don't want to know the absoltute best you got down hill with a tail wind, I want to know general riding around: urban and open road.

Thanks.

mpg

Hi there my 1100gs with a remus fitted gives about 45mpg and about the same with a standard exhaust but feels more responsive with the remus, but if I ride at over 5000rpm it guzzles fuel like it is going out of fashion e.g 35ish mpg

1150GS with Remus, Y-piece and 14,000 monitored miles - real world roads and making 'reasonable' progress - 47.8 MPG. Feels grunty, sounds great.

Cheers

1999 GS1100 31k miles.[the best of all the GS range];)
with remus and y peice.
did 2500 miles over the new year spain/portugal aprox 47 miles per gal using mainly main roads [no tolls]no thrashing the motor.ie brisk progress and cruising around 70-90 mph.[fully loaded]
much better sound[awesome through mountain tunnels].
more power during take off.[it will lift easally and im a portly lad]! COUGH
more midrange.
top end :nenau as i've never gone above 108 mph according to my 2610.
dont forget your ear plugs, great for throttle up in town or tunnels.
BHP=pass.
i thought the sound would be too loud during prolonged touring and i would'nt hear my mercan lady friend form garmin but found no problems.
i do wear ear plugs[i always have done].the original pipe is packed away in the loft and thats where its staying.:thumb
REMUS 'im loving it':D

Well, yes, in a nutshell...

Basically I don't want any of that fantastic biking elaboration creeping in. You know, the one where doing 160 for 30 seconds turns into doing 180 with the fuzz on your tail etc....

Don't ever buy a Blackbird! :( :spitfire

WHY.
i loved my super blackbird but-
i did one EU tour over 2800 miles when i got back to the uk booked it into abingdon honda for a service it required-tyres/chain/sprockets/discsx3/pads plus a service and a few bits that i cant remember= over £1000.
BYE BYE BLACKBIRD.:tears
still an awesome bike [too ferking fast in the real world]

i have ran a few 1150s on my dyno and with y piece and can they make around 85bhp with the best 94bhp this is back wheel miles seems to make little difference (more seems better in terms of power)

2001 R1150GS, no idea about BHP, 9-9.4 miles per litre over the last 85,000 miles. Seems to make no difference whether touring, commuting, two up, off road.

Maybe my riding style accomodates (ie slower 2 up, compensates for weight etc), but this figure never seems to vary more than 5%.

And the figure has remained completely unchanged over time (ie last years records are exactly the same as the first years)

Have to say though, that I have never done a journey without exceeding 5k rpm at some point, but I have also not noticed any change between journeys underaken commuting in the UK vaguely within speed limits on the M25/A2 and 2 up fully laden thrashing (flat out) through France/Spain etc.

Do what?

I used to tour Europe quite a bit on my Blackbird.

It did eat tyres on more spirited runs, but I never had to adjust/renew the chain and sprockets, and I'm not the most sedate of riders. I was also on the original brake disc when I sold the bike with 15k mile son it.

Mind you, I swear by a Scottoiler. (For the chain/sprockets, not the brakes).

I had 1150 Dyno tested and set up when I got the Techlusion device. It was much easier to adjust on the Dyno that by the method Techlusion suggest by road running. 96.4 BHP!

I've got the Wunderlich cams and cam followers to fit this summer.

In real-world terms I've found the MPG that BMW quotes to be very over rated, as it would be, 'cause it's a constant speed. My "real-world" mpg is 38 knocking around the doors, which isn't great imho. I'm sure 25 is quite easy too with a bit of hand.

Put it this way, my carbed SV650 did better and that was giving it some - I'm much calmer on the GS.

A.

I don't think you'll need a Y piece on an 1100, the cat comes off with the original exhaust and the replacement just clamps onto the 2 into 1 piece that leads directly from the cylinders.

R-reg 1100, 42mpg if ridden reasonably carefully, 38ish if ridden properly.

Standard exhaust currently.
