2 1/2 years old suggests battery will be knackered at the very least. Is the software just 'on there' or are you getting original disks etc,. Unless the latter I'd say no it isn't a good deal the laptops on their own can be got on eBay for £200-£250 some of them will come with a warranty of sorts.

Also do you need Microsoft Office? If not then consider spending another £100 and getting a new laptop and use MS Works (a likely freebie) or get Star Office a free suite of apps from Sun.

Three hundred quid for a Pentium 3??? No way. Mind you, it is a laptop. If you need a laptop then you'll always pay over the odds for something that can't be upgraded and will stuff your neck if you use it for any length of time.

My advice is to spend a bit extra and get a new desktop. PC World have a 2.8GHz Celeron PC with 17" monitor for £319.

I wouldn't have thought a Pentium 3 laptop would be worth more than about £150. New laptops that are way better than this one start at only £400 at PC World.

I'm also guessing that the '10mb' is the hard drive (and is actually 10gb)...10gb is not very big at all.

It's not a good deal at all Bob........it's the going rate from the online places for reconditioned units that are considerably faster and that have more memory and HD space.

BTW, Ideally you'll want something that runs windows XP to make is so much easier to network up and get your wireless working.

Bob, a recon laptop company I've used are here and I'd recommend comparing and contrasting their prices. What you are quoting is about right for a fully factory reconditioned IBM laptop with a reasonable (3/6 Month) warranty from a retail supplier.

Note that IBM laptops are usually good build quality and carry a premium second hand and reconditioned. Whether the premium is worth it...

As usual :ukgser : troops come good, thanks one and all I shall buy new. wave dance pize :dance
