What do you recommend then as an alternative repellent, protection. GT85 or ACF50 (probably to gloopy)

Don't put anything into the switches, if they stop working get them replaced - anything else is likely only to be a temporary fix unless you dismantle them yourself and replace the component parts.

hmmmmmm....... I need to have a good think what to do and better make up my mind promptly before it is to late

Don't rush to make a decision, extend the warranty for £385 then you will have a lot more time to think about it and if you sell privately, you can pass the warranty on.

Go and have a chat about all the issues with Bahnstormers, they are generally superb (if you have the right attitude), they might help you make the right decision and the hot chocolate is pretty good, certainly was this afternoon anyway.

But just remember extended warranty does not cover corrosion, it's only covered for corrosion under the 2 years from new.

So. Extended warranty, what does it and what doesn't cover on a used '64 plate GS? Engine corrosion is now out of question as mentioned above.

It isn't actually covered but, I have a friend who has just had a new engine authorised as a goodwill gesture on a bike that is on extended warranty, talk to Jody at Bahnstormers and see what he says.

I am guessing that you are referring to Alton branch? I purchased mine from Maidenhead....

Renault switches.

I would use a product for three job, servisol is contact switch cleaner that is used in electronics, easily available from ebay

I am not sure that WD40 is a good idea, it may rot the thin waterproof covers on the internal switch elements. I posted a thread on of the dismantled switches years ago which showed the problem.

+1 on this. Wd40 on switches a really bad idea for the reason stated. Had 3 sets on a Hex until someone told me.

I thought the electrics are outside of the extended warranty, but as they have been problematic BMW have been replacing them as a gesture of goodwill.

Well I am booked in at SBW/Lind (being closest to me) for Saturday morning to get it investigated. They made noises, that some things aren't covered under warranty???? If they do decide to charge me for it I'll be going to a supplying dealer (Bahnstormer) for a second attempt. I ain't paying for nothing till that warranty will expire. the whole reason why I chose BMW because of the 12 (now 24) month warranty with any used machine. Saying that, next bike will be new, as allegedly any warranty claim is a "walk in the park" compared to used machine. However you'd imagine that with such name as BMW you wouldn't need to worry about switches or paint on the motor failing, as they are "quality bits of kit"????

Back in December exactly the same happened to mine. So I squirted with wd40 and then on the next ride all was well. Spoke to dealer next time I was in there and as I have extended warranty, they (bahnstormers) ordered, and over xmas hols fitted new switch gear foc
so sorted. Drank as much coffee and ate copious amounts of biscuits to get my moneys worth out of the warranty haha.

Yet to hear a bad word about Bahnstormer.
