Howdy, quick one for any of the Belfast natives. My much better half and I are heading to Belfast for a wee break on Sunday for a few nights. We are staying in House, which is located on Botanic avenue near Crescent gardens. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm ashamed to say I've never spent anytime in Belfast and really don't know where is good to eat and drink. I have passed through it many times but never socialised there.

I'm wondering if you can suggest any good mid priced restaurants? Michael Deans and Made in Belfast were suggested. Any good? Can you recommend any particular bars or places to hang out of an evening?

One other question, there does not seem to be any parking in House, which is a bit of nuisance. Can you suggest anywhere near it that would have safe overnight parking?

Barking Dog on Malone Rd very close to where you're staying is a very good restaurant. The on street parking in that area is safe enough. Mourne Seafood Bar is a superb informal fish restaurant in the city centre, great for lunch. There are loads of lively bars round the Botanic area. Enjoy!

I'd avoid the Lisburn road Botannic and Stranmillis and Botannic avenue areas as they are overpriced

EXCEPT Maggie Mays Which Max and I will go to if we are up in the city and on occasion we even travel in the 25 miles just for dinner as the food has always been good and freshly prepared

Its kind of studenty with benches and seats but it adds to the atmosphere and Bring your own bottle applies

I will try to gather a few others

Being honest there are loads of taxis and the buses go via the city hall You can do PArk and ride from Multiple locations

Of Note

The Morning Star, Pottingers Entry, Awesome Guinness and Fresh cooked food as a £6.50 "plate" or from a menu We've never had bad food there so far either

Whatsapp me where you are staying and I ll see what I know as I deliver up round there everyday (Unfortunately)

Thanks lads. It’s nice to have a few places to head for. £6.50 for a pint and some food sounds great. Good point regarding parking. I am hoping there might be a shopping center or the like nearby to leave it over night. We will be doing a lot of walking, seeing the sights etc.

Is it worth doing the taxi tour? If so, is there anyone you would recommend in particular?

There are loads of walking routes that avoid the aspects of sectarianism that "we" have become famous for

I was a student in Belfast in the early nineties so didn’t expect to learn much, but it was very good.

Well, we have been and gone home. Had a very nice time, everybody was very nice to us. Had a lot of 'where are you from?' questions. I get the feeling Belfast is still getting used to southern tourists . I felt like a bit of a curiosity! We walked a lot and saw lots. I found the pubs very interesting. I'm not sure if it's politically correct to elaborate on that subject so I'll err on the side of caution and say nothing. Did a tour of City hall which I enjoyed. Titanic was ok. Had a lot of amazing beers I've not seen down in Dublin. The fire in Pennys/Primark really messed with google maps when we were trying to figure our way around at the beginning. Parking was a bollix. Outside the hotel was free on the sunday but as of 8 am monday it had to be paid for on the hour every hour. We found a space on a side street which was free but truth be told, I wasn't confident. I really didn't want anything to happy to the little citreon. All it takes is a drunken annoyed eijet. Anyway, ended up paying 53 pounds for the facility of safe parking. All in all a positive experience. Not much craic to be found but on Sunday night, Belfast is for the most part closed. And as for a Monday night, well, it's not the night to have the craic anywhere really!!!

It is quite a nice town, had lots of nights out there over the years but nothing to write home about.
Hull is better.

Radisson Blu is the best for car parking - free if you're a guest. Within walking distance of the city centre, bars and restaurants.

I had a look online there, considering what we paid for the parking, it would be the same price overall to get the more expensive radisson.
