Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
OK so I am going to change the clutch with the help of my FJR riding mechanic friend....

What should I buy on top of the clutch for the job, do they do a kit????

Plus what should we look out for????

Any advice greatly received, and I have read Mavericks write up of last winter...

get a couple of the throttle body "O" rings, they seal between the throttle bodies and inlet to airbox pipes -

They stretch when you take inlet pipes off, and you'll never be able re-use them and get the inlet over the throttle body .

You might be lucky and they'll be OK, but if they're not, you'll be stuck .

Clutch alligning tool or an old input shaft, moly grease to lube the splines.

Remember the subframe has two bolts "hidden" under some cables near the ABS stuff. If you don't losen them up the subframe won't budge and you will wonder WTF is going on.

The battery box has two rubber spacers that screw into the top of the gearbox casing, you either have to unscrew them with lots of patience or lift the battery box high enough to pull them out as you take the gearbox out.

You will spend more time taking stuff off and replacing it than actually changing the clutch. Shit job though but worth while the expierence once:rolleyes:

if your here next week, you can borrow an input shaft to align your clutchy parts - but post it back to me ;)

and i'll show you a few shortcuts ;) ;)

Do you want me to scan the relevant pages in the Haynes manual and email them to you ? I could do this tonight so you'd have it as a guide to help too .... PM me your email address if you want them.

Cheers

How can anyone like someone who takes 6 weeks vacation and tells us all about it while we are stuck at work ;)

Been riding the bike today after seven weeks off. No clutch slip at all....

Think I might as well leave it till it starts doing it again and getting bad. Really great to get back on such a great bike after the one I rented in Asia....

Do you all agree that its best that it lets go completely before changing it????

Still unsure for next week Steptoe, the forecast is quite bad here for next week (snow) if it does not snow I'll come. I'll try and give you a definate answer tomorrow (sunday) for the Tuesday plan...
