Bennetts Rattle sound test 1250gs v 1300gs

Everyone state's the r1300 gs rattles more than the r1250 gs.. can't say I've really noticed that much of a difference.. I do wear ear plugs and with me being a old git my earing most likely not as good as it use to be.. came across this clip from Bennetts putting the r1250 gs v r1300 gs it's based on the r1300 gsa.. through a engine rattle test at various rev's you can hear a difference.. I don't think it's night and day difference if you don't want to watch the full clip, which is worth watching as covers other differences.. just fast forward to 15.30.. What your thoughts do you prefer the r1250gs engine over the r1300gs.. is it night and day difference or do I need earing hearing aids

Can't you tell I'm board came across this other Bennetts clip testing the r1300 out with a pillion.. may be of interest to you if can't get out with out the wife I don't have that problem as my wife is scared of 2 wheels.. Every cloud as a silver lining

I have a 24 plate R1300GS on loan from Bahnstormers whilst my RT gets some attention. I have done 100 miles on it today on mixed roads. WOW - what a bike. Without doubt the best BMW I have ridden, and the noisiest! You would have thought they could have dampened the bag of spanners for their new engine! Dreadful noise on tick over.

Oddly enough, they gave me a 1300 as a loaner and I tried really hard to like it but it felt like just another soulless appliance (like white goods). It went well, handled well, stopped well, was reasonable on fuel.

They asked me how I enjoyed it, I said “It’s a bit Meh” with a Gallic shrug. They admitted to me that many feel the same way.

I guess we all have differing opinions, but I was happy to get my GSA back. I’ve never found the 1250 lacking anyway.

They're great aren't they especially if you like to press on a bit, and so much torque. It does sound naff, less so if revving it hard.

Being an Engineer with mechanical sympathy I never open the taps until properly warmed through on any machine, though I can't vouch for other folk who have ridden it. It only had a few hundred miles on it when I was given the keys. I'd have preferred an S1000XR as a loaner but they gave me a 1300GS as I think they sniffed a potential sale.

I rode it from Alton to my home in Fareham and back via the A32 and put in a fivers worth of petrol from Sainsburys. With the average speed cameras and the weather/road conditions I stuck (ahem) mostly to the posted limits anyway. It went well but felt flighty and light like a sports bike compared to my 1250GSA. I couldn't see what the fuss was about with the increase in BHP/Torque in the new engine, it didn't seem like a night and day change plus the newer engine was even more noisy than my current bike (which is too loud already IMHO).

Its a nice bike but its not for me.

Thanks for that. It’s now done 3500 miles so has had a fair amount of use, and no doubt abuse! It looks as good as new though so I think the finish may be improved over the older bikes. I’ve only taken it out for one short ride but first impressions are good, very nice gearchange and more power than I’ll ever need. But I agree, the 1300 engine sounds terrible!

Don't worry about "Abuse", modern oils are fantastic at protecting sliding surfaces.

Consider it already "run-in" and settled, I'd say its better than buying one from an old duffer that has chugged around at 2000 rpm and laboured it compared to one ridden enthusiastically through the rev range.

Besides, you have the remainder of the full BMW warranty on such a new machine.

My thoughts exactly, and having been registered at the end of March this year it probably won’t have seen any salty roads.
