Best 7-Seater for 10K ?

What about a Discovery !
Plenty of room and you can have some fun as well

Citroen C8 HDI Mate had two, 170k a piece. Great bits of kit

7 seater

Son in law has a Chrysler gran voyger 2.8 diesel auto lovely to drive comfort extremly good all back seats fold flat to the floor without taking out so its easy to turn into a van a lot of people carrier for the money

Perhaps he favours reliability ;)

All part of the ownership experience !

Seriously mine has been very good its at just under 100k now and all it has ever needed was a wheel bearing (that was the cause of all my recent woes) but i take your point

Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. Ours is a great job. Not the prettiest but great features, engine and the panoramic glass makes for a very bright interior.

Latest model diesel VW Sharan that you can afford

THIS :thumb2

Go sit in a French MPV.....tap all the plastics, open and close all of the flaps, cubbies and doors, then do the same in a VW......you'll not consider the Gallic offerings again.

+ the VW PD engines are superb.

I haven't tried the SEAT version (alhanbra? :nenau) but I suspect it will be nearly as good.

I'd also look at a Toyota Previa.....I used one for a weekend many years ago and thought it was lovely....anything above the Aygo made by Toyota is good, and mechanically/quality wise, they are up there with VW IMO.

Howdy L
I agree with the lads on the Galaxy/Sharan/Alahambra,all the same wagon just different badges, hard to beat the vw 1.9tdi,I swear by that engine, little rough and loud compared to newer engines but they go on forever,I've had Citroens and Renaults over the years and they can give really anoying electrical faults+ plastic wings and light panels would worry me if the inevitable happened, guy that works with me has a galaxy with over 200k miles, drives like its got 20k on it

Yep, bought a 3 year old auto diesel off local Citroen dealer for 9k at the start of the year. Absolutely superb! Very hard to find a fault with them.

Another vote for the -

Citreon C4 Picasso
1.6 TD EGS or manual

i've had two, never had any problems, other than a dented wheel rim caused by a crater whilst driving a load of tossers in Kerry Xmas 2009.

Mine always returned 50ish MPG.

Build quality is superb and a vast improvement over older citreon.

( I have had citreon's since the 70's and have a C4 1.6 EGS )

A very underrated MPG / 7 seater..... :beerjug:

I'm another fan of the sharan/galaxy/alhambra. My sister is just replacing a 1996 P reg Sharan that has finally become uneconomic to repair, and wants a more recent example as they go on and on and on...

+1

The 1600 oil burner is surprisingly quick yet returns 45-50 mpg. Same engine goes in Fords, Minis, Mazdas etc. Lots of driver toys.

My daughter had the same requirement (4 Grandsons!), after a troublesome period with a Kia Sedona we finally settled on the Citroen Grand Picasso and she is really pleased with it, pretty good value too, which was just as well as Mum&Dad had to pay for it!

VW Sharon...........2.0 D(140)
Great bit of kit and loads of room . Had three of them. Sports model handles well. Bit heavy on front tyres if you push it a bit. Touran2.0D (140)is very under estimated(had 2) and will carry 7. Cheaper to run than Sharon.

Had two alhambras and one 115pd Galaxy. Same thing all built in the same factory in Portugal along with the Sharan. The 1.9pd engine is the one to go for (now a bit old). Try not to buy anything later with a DPF esp if the vehicle will do short journeys the DPF will fail!!

The main issue with the vehicles is air con front pipe is badly designed and splits costs about £200 and requires most of the front of the car to be dismantled to fit. You need aircon because of all the glass. Front drop links failed regularly on the 90 Tdi Alhambra and the 2002 115pd the 2006 115 Galaxy must have a modified part as it never needed drop links in 90k miles??. Aircon pipe still split though!.

Had a 1.7 echo flex zafira as well. Very easy on diesel but prone to DPF issues even though I was doing 1500 miles a month! Nice to drive though but got shot of it at 1.5 years 20k as it was going out of warranty and didn't want big bills. Kids are now bigger and I have an Auris touring sports hybrid.....it's brill!
