Best aftermarket screens for 1150 GSA

Hi there,
I'm a new member with an 1150 GSA which I got a few days ago. I'm trying to figure out what the best alternative screen for these machines, although I realise it's bound to be very subjective.

I'm coming from a Varadero with Givi screen - I had a Pan European with Givi screen before that -both were a hit with me.

However I got wet in some unusual places this morning and the wind blast factor far exceeds the Varadero at any speed over about 50mph, so I really want to improve on that.

It doesn't look like Givi do a screen for the 1150GSA - only the 1200. I've heard Bagster do one but I can't find it mentioned on the interweb. Can anyone give me any tips on this subject?

NB - I don't really want to go for the Aeroflow one unless I can see one in the flesh somewhere - frankly I don't like the look of them - they remind me of those huge windshields you see on scooters in Italy!

Thanks

Your first step ...

... should be Tobinators; they raise the screen and make it more adaptable, then you can mess about for ages trying to find the 'sweet spot' before realising it's actually your helmet causing the problems !

Come to The Ace for breakfast on Easter Sunday where you'll be able to view loads of variants and quiz the owners (me included) about their set-ups :augie

I use Tobinators on my 1150GSA but also have an American made screen-edging that increases the effective size of the standard screen :nenau

I'd love to come to the Ace if I hadn't already been booked out for this weekend...

There are already Tobinators on the bike - which seem as far as I can see to leave a much wider gap between the ally plate and the screen. I rather got the impression that would increase the draught in the middle - but perhaps I haven't figured out the entire range of adjustment - and I'm certainly no aerodynamics boffin.

Where does the edging come from? That sounds like a useful tip..

The reason ...

... you get disturbance is the screen creates a low-pressure area which refills with air creating turbulence. Tobinators (as you've noticed) raise the screen allowing better smoother airflow.

Try removing the screen completely and ride the bike, this will allow you to experience the smoothest possible airflow and what you are trying to achieve albeit behind a screen. Then set about trying to recreate that by adjusting the Tobinators; it can take a while :augie

The screen edging I use is called Micro-swirl and is made by Saeng, it's not cheap but I've had it on both an 1100 and 1150 and it suits me.

The main problem is that all these things are subjective, and what suits me may not necessarily suit you as there are so many variable.

Hi Oblertone,

That's really useful information - and thanks for taking the time. Below are links to some I've discovered just doing the research - but I'll definitely be trying the edging that Saeng do. Just need to weigh up which screen to get now.

To be honest I've never felt that I suffer from wind buffeting as such, well not yet anyway - even when I had a Pan Euro I never experienced the problems that were regularly mentioned in forums and reviews. For me it's really just the noise and blast factor I think. I don't like the feeling of wind blast on my jacket for example. Perhaps I'm just a wuss and ought to have bought an RT!

My lid is a schuberth C3 so all indications are that it should be reasonable. Although I hate that the visor shuts automatically at speed.

Here are links to alternatives that I've spotted during research.

I know there are already views elsewhere in the forums on some of these - and the MRA ones as well.
Anyone prepared to share their experience on any of these?

I know they're all like marmite - and opinions are very subjective but I'd be interested all the same.

Thanks,
Richard

Yeah ...

... you're just a wuss :augie If you're careful with it, the screen edging can be transferred between screens, but before you buy some consider if you can live with a thick edging, some folks can't. The pic below shows it on my 1100 (with tall screen) from behind, that'll give you an idea of what it looks like. I don't find it at all distracting but again, it's down to the individual

Well I've ordered a Cee Baileys screen. I'll see how I get on with that, then I might get the edging if I still feel I need improvement.
