Best Airhead out of the box

What is the best airhead you have owned that was right for you pretty much unmodified? Was thinking about this after commenting on the Mystic thread. For me it was the RTs, did the job I wanted at the time. Only mod was an upgraded headlight globe. Would I have another one now - probably not. My favourite airhead was the 93 R100GSPD (with many mods!)
 
My 93 pd has stood the test of time well and I still really enjoy riding it. It's currently fitted with a moorespeed engine that goes very,very well but doesn't suit the bike. I will be fitting the standard engine once it's rebuilt but with 9:1 pistons

My 78 100/7 is still a favourite. 220,000 miles on it and still a great bike to ride. Essentially still a standard machine. The forks have been swapped for later ones and it has spoked wheels but apart from that. Technically the later bikes are better with airheads but the heavy flywheel engines are so nice to ride.
 
I think possibly my R80ST was the best airhead I've had, the handling was the best of any airhead I've ridden. It was a lovely well balanced bike that took me all over the Alps. It is run close by the R100S I had for a while. My first airhead was an R80/7, I'm now running an R100gs that doesn't feel as agile as the ST.
 
R80g/s, I rode one on their debut in the UK. Had to have one.... I should also have bought a R80st, best handling airhead EVER.. IMHO.
 
A scruffy old 78 100RT minus the fairing is my favourite. I have a mono 100RT which has the most free revving engine of any boxer I have ridden. My 100CS is a delight and is suprisingly quick. I much prefer any of these to my 1150GS.
 
For me it's the R100RT, the 1979, heavy flywheel, brown & gold one.

I've owned two, and to me they are the best Airhead I've ever had...

My 1989 R100GS is a close second. No hang on, maybe I like it more!

In fact they're both great bikes :thumb2

Hard to beat a para airhead. Cracking riding weather today.welcome to the summer.

It's a funny thing about the Basic. It's really just a parts bin special with a decent rear shock, but it's a super little handler and I've never got bored with mine. I bought it new in Germany in '96 and the only addition over 'out of the box' is an R100R sidestand (bike leans a bit more than standard but it's never been a problem) + part time pannier frames.

My first two BMWs were a '92 k100rs 16v (bought new) and four years later a '92 R100R. After many MANY BMWs since then I now own ......

A '92 K100RS 16v and a '92 R100R that I spent many years hunting down !

They are very different bikes but compliment each other well and will stay in my stable for as long as I continue riding. My favourite is the R100r :-)
 
1980 R80/7 for me.
If i could onlly have one Bike - that would be it.
(there may be a rose tint to my view though)
 
1980 R100T. The red and silver model. Lovely bike to ride, very similar to the old 90/6.
Used on the 1980 Milk race to escort the push bikes along the stages around the country.

I was invited into a storage unit at Gus Kuhns and there were 25 of them, all brand new in the same colour finish ready for the race.

I was offered one of them for £1200 when the race finished, if i remember the mileages were around 2500 give or take a few miles between bikes.

It's got to be the R100R's for me. I have 2 now,a stock, very clean 32000 miler and my Cafe Racer.
The Cafe bike has a full Sciminger engine that is 90% full race spec-still has heavy flywheel. This bike is great for embarrassing riders on modern bikes. They see it coming past and can't believe their eyes!!
