What you say does sound like you turned off the auto-alarm rather than adjusted sensitivity -
I don't remember readinging an adjustment bit in the alarm manual when I got mine fitted (after a ned tried to haul it away. He got as far as the local park

The noise _is_ good for convincing neds to leave the thing after the first fiddle-or-two.
