There aren't many options by the look of it!

The Odyssey battery fitted only 10 months ago has died (and this seems to be only 7Ah capacity).

The only other battery available seems to be the conventional lead acid 12Ah job.

The high cost of the Odyssey (>£100) is not value for money compared to £30 for the conventional beast.

Am I missing anything in my rationale?

Happy Christmas from Cheshire.

Yeah ... the warranty on the Odyssey :nenau

Ours on the 650's were still going strong five years later ... 12 months warranty at least!

Just to give you some idea as to how long they can last; we have 3 odyssey's. Daughters f650gs intermittent sunny day use only 5yrs 4months and still going strong, on sons F650gs will be 2 years old in January used all weathers, no probs. The one on my r1100rs 7 1/2 years old used almost daily and still starts without the abs lights playing up. Thats why I think they are worth the money.:clap

Good question and easily answered!

I bought the bike last February and the old owner stated that he had just replaced it when I picked the bike up. Unfortunately I have lost his phone number!

The battery was fantastic over the Summer and Autumn and was OK upto the point when I recharged it on layup 4 weeks ago. When I checked last weekend it was completely dead (9V). That's why I'm wondering whether the charger (an old Optimate 3)did something silly to it.

Whne you have put a new battery in, make sure you measure the charging voltage with the engine running. You may have a dead reg/rec.

Really sorry to read about your experience. :( Two of us used Odyssey batteries on Dakars on an RTW. Mine completely died after around a year and my friends was shortly afterwards. We were very disappointed as we'd bought them for the claim of deep charge/discharge as we were to use them for heated clothing and spot lights. They really were a pain ! You can get a Yuasa for around a third of the price and it should last at least as long. Might also be worth looking at BMW Gel batteries ? I'm pleased to read that some have had a better experiences. I wouldn't ever go there again.

As above .... We were given two Odyssey batteries for our RTW and they were still going strong after five years :nenau
