I downloaded .gpx routes off best 'Biking Roads' onto my laptop.
When I send to my 660 it is storing them in the middle of my music files in the Middle Player.

Is there a way of storing them somewhere more logical and how do I do it ? ie create a folder

I do also but they download in my case as trails in mapsource, i can then if required create routes that follow these trails and save the routes before sending to the 660.
all my routes on pc are in the folder my garmin and are gdb files. Once sent to the 660 they can be accessed in Custom Routes or My Data.
Its a good idea to ensure the maps on your PC are the same version as on the 660, lifetime maps update subscription helps.
Hope this helps, if you need anything further just shout.

I've got Basecamp if that's the same thing? Is there are 'idiots guide' anywhere, hopefully maybe not be too complicated for me

That suggests I have to create a 'Garmin/.gpx folder on the Zumo 660? How do I do that please?

BEST BIKING ROADS

Ok , have a browse in your documents you should have a "my garmin" file in there, also in start menu open the garmin folder and see if you have an application called mapsource.
Assuming above all in place, once on the best biking roads.com site, select a route and click on gpx ??.
select open with
select other
select mapsource

mapsource should open, on the menu on left hand side, click on tracks, highlight and double click whatevers there, select show on map.
This will show the track as dashes on a map of the area in question.

If you want to save then in mapsource just click on file save as (call it whatever you want) save it in docs in the my garmin file.

N.B. The routes on best biking roads are gpx files of tracks ie, they are not routes in the proper sense of being ready to send to your device.
Constructing routes whether in mapsource or basecamp is whole other can of worms!!
loads of tutorials on this site for both, personally i use mapsource, cant get my head round basecamp although its on my radar to do list.
Have a look here http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?341756-Converting-tracks-into-routes
oh heres a random gpx download from best biking roads, you will notice its now a gdb file, this is auto when opened as described above.

I might be a bit thick I think!

I only have Basecamp on my laptop. Do you have a suitable link to Mapsource please?

Thanks for the link. I have got the disc and my 660 has got the software loaded (I think) problem is where the downloaded route ends up on my satnav. There doesn't seem to be a folder marked 'My Routes' or similar?

Routes need to go into the folder /Garmin/GPX/ on the unit itself. I'm pretty sure this will work on the micro SD card as will.

When you start your 660 it should let you know that there is new data to import. Otherwise go into the menu and use the Import* function (* can't remember the exact name as I'm away from home and without my 660 ATM).
