Hi there,

Any advice on who's offering the best deal on bradband these days? It's for a mate and he just needs a basic service although preferably without a download limit.

Heard bad things about BT a while back (year or so ago) and don't know if they've got better or not, just wondering if demon/pipex/bulldog whoever are any better?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dave

I've recently moved from the big city where we had a TV/phone/internet cable package from NTL. If this is available to your friend then it is often the best value.

I'm now in suburbia where cable is not an option. I now have a BT phone line and broadband via Virgin. It's rebadged NTL but has the advantage that there is no 12 month minimum sign-up which suits me as I may be on the move again. Set-up was painless. My telephone line had to be upgraded by BT and the work was completed well within the time quoted. So far the service has been good. The Virgin call centre seems to be much more efficient than NTL's own feeble effort.

1 Gb at £14.99 a month is not the cheapest but as I said, there is no 12 month lock in.

Nominally there is a monthly bandwidth limit. In 4 years with NTL I have never known them to enforce it. I doubt that the useless numpties have any idea how to check!
