I'd guess that if you drop it that hard you'd be looking at not riding it for a while and checking out how good / in date your insurance is?

Not at all. Just letting the bike fall off the stand can give some spectacular results if it hits the guard in the tight place.

But they are (were) the neatest looking and least bulky of the protection equipment available. And didn't get in the way for servicing etc .

The genuine BMW adv bars are the worst for causing damage. The bike will roll over the radius, and the bike will then slide along on the large ADV tank.

very expensive to repair, if it doesn't burst into flames.

Here's a picture that should scare you -

An 1100 written off due to the crash bars - Bike was knocked into by a car while parked.

No damage, just scratched, thank god for my crashbars, they saved me a few bob.

Couple weeks later, a bad oil leak.

On investigation, the block had been cracked, due to the crashbars. Bike was a write off.

They no longer make them - plus if it's a solid type of drop, the bolts that hold the stantons break the heads.

If you want to take a chance, they have about 15 sets left. Could become collectors items

Just fill the holes with araldite and cotton wool, which i keep in the tool box. lasts for years.
