I had booked up with bike tours u.k.for a trip in the peak district, lake district, and n,york moors on 8-11 may using as many back and single track roads as possible, it started on friday at wilford south of nottingham with sixteen bikes starting with a yamaha mt-3 to two guys from swindon on kawasaki 1400gtr tourers (37 mpg)
and pretty much the usual models and me 1100g.s.between.
We headed north west to matlock bath for a tea stop then took the snake pass to lady bower resovior then continued north to huddersfield, bradford, skipton on to Gargrave (public toilets thank christ
) then to langsrothdale then across to the ribble head viaduct, by this time the group had started to ride in a quick smooth group through to Kirkby Lonsdale we then took the A590/A595 around to Ravenglass where we were staying, it was a long day 260 ish miles never did a pint of 6X taste that good
Saterday we went to the honister pass and slate mine at the top where a 500ml bottle of water is more than twice the price of a litre of unleaded, feckin rip off
then to wrynose and hardnott passes were a rider in another group fell off one of the hairpin bends coming down to hardnott fort fortunatly the only damage was a dented ego and a few dents on the bike.
We stopped at the old dungeon gyll for lunch then made our way to Wasdale head for a drink and a look at the view then back to the hotel a bit more relaxed around 100 miles that day.
sunday was bright and clear as was the whole weekend went to Coniston and the ferry at windermere £1.50 for a feckin bike a 50% increase on last year we then went to keld and across the buttertubs pass and down to Hawes for a bag of chips and an ice cream in the wensleydale cheese factory we then started to head home via Grassington, Pateley Bridge,Knaresborough then a run down the A1 to home at 2030 with total of 970 miles and an aching @rse bloody good trip.
