I have a 4 month old GSA and have just discovered a bleeding great screw embedded in the 1500 mile old rear tyre. Just bad luck, but I think I should replace the tyre.

Not keen to take it into BMW Park Lane (rip off merchants!), but any recommendations about tyre places around London? Preferably West London.

Have

used this mob several times, they always seems competitive on price and are usually very helpful.

South London pikey puts first dibs on useless tyre that can not be repaired safely and then reused :)

They're very close to each other - both very good - but don't be put off by what they look like from the road!!

Thanks for the correction, shows how long ago I last went there.

Best place for tyres in London?

on the wheels same as anywhere else:hide

For west London you could try http://discountmotorcycletyres.com/, motorbike only tyre place and part of HGB bikes, just off the M40 at the Polish War Memorial. I've had a couple of sets of tyres from them. Not the cheapest but have decent stock. If you want the valves changing, make sure you ask for it. They didn't do it on mine once and it turned out the valve was leaking. Charged me to refit the tyre and the new valve.

I always ask nowadays. Other than that, they're reasonable.

Thanks chaps. Plenty to go on there. I am going to pull the screw out in the morning and see what happens. Hopefully only superficial, but if it's right through at least I have a mobile option in the list if it goes down.

Special thanks of course to Rodders!

Big thanks to FWR.

No BS, just sound advice, and no hard sell.

'If it was my bike I would leave the nail where it is'

'If we pull it out and the tyre goes down, it's repairable for £25 anyway, so no need for a £125 new tyre'

Since the bike is a 365 day a year commuter, I couldn't take the risk of being left without transport if the tyre went down on the road, so we pulled out the nail. Fortunately it was just short enough not to have gone right through.

Checked for air escaping and it didn't appear to be, so fingers crossed. When the time does come for a new tyre, or if it goes down slowly over the next few days, I know where I'll go, and would recommend to anybody who asks.

Get a "stop and go" tyre plugging kit for £20, keep it under your seat and you can fix 20 punctures if needed. :thumb
