I've bought quite a few bits from Accu

You measure the length from under the head, 7mm is an odd thread size.

Sometimes Wemoto come up trumps for me . I needed a side stand bolt for my Tenere .(don’t ask ) . Wemoto had one for a different Yamaha but it was the same part number . £2:36 . Yamaha wanted £42 !! 😳

A 7mm bolt would have 11mm socket, I'd say that's an 8mm bolt as you say it's a 12mm head.

South Essex screw and fastener.

My money's on M8.
 You could be right there hence the 12mm head. Usual M8 have 13mm heads but many Jap ones are 12mm

This isn't helping g00ner find one, but it could prevent him buying one the wrong size :D

Get a vernier on it g00ner, that guessing stick is not much help.

Another vote for Westfield.

And spend a tenner in Lidl and buy yourself a set of digital “vernier” calipers

Good advice all. I’ll buy a vernier calliper anyway as it’ll be useful in the long run, I think it is an M8 but I’ll take it to a local supplier to ensure a match.

God knows how much fun the engineering types on here have rebuilding a pile of rust and ashes to a mint bike :thumb2

Just pop into your friendly local hardware shop and try on an 8mm nut , and then you buy your vernier
:nenau

Just give in to the temptation and buy a selection box, a thousand assorted bolts, nuts and washers.

You can then gaze fondly, occasionally, at the box of 998 (997 if you use a washer) bolts and nuts taking up space in your garage.

But you never know, the day will come when you’ll need another one of a random size and you’ll have saved on the postage.

Kays fasteners on Ebay i buy lots or random fasteners from them in small quantities
