I'm installing a GPs on the handlebars but wany to tap into a 12V supply that comes on with the ignition but is also fused (with not too bigger fuse rating).

Preferably at the handlebar/instrument region. Also must be ultimately removeable without causing damage/ugly holes etc.

Any one any ideas?

Its an 1100GS by the way.

Thanks

Personally I'd reccomend not to switch the GPS power.

GPS's use very little power. (My 60C goes for 30 hours on two AA's)

I often like to play with the thing while sitting on the side of the road, ignition off....

You'll most likely remove it when ever you leave the bike for more than an hour...

Mine is connected directly to the battery with an inline fuse.

It will be connected to a 5v voltage regulator permanently. So don't want a residual current drain when not in use. (ABS start up/battery voltage etc).

Unit (actually a sat-nav) has it's own internal battery that lasts 2 hrs

presently I have to use a tank bag to hide car adaptor and run a cable up from the accessory socket. Would like a tidier more user friendly set up so I can use it more frequently. But also quickly remove at services etc.

Had wondered about the horn :mmmm

Yes, tap into one of the fuses in the fuse box. If you tap into the correct end, it'll also be fused.

If the R1100 GS fuse box is the same or similar to the R1150 GS fuse box, then have a look at this thread and go down to the pic of the overhead view of the BMW fuse box. Note my comments on connecting to a switched power.

You can also install your voltage regulator in the fuse box keeping it out of the elements.
