Some advice Please. I have started sorting out my R80G/S. It needs new exhaust headers and balancer box and a new rear shock. Who sell the best replacement parts nowadays?
TIA

Keihan for the pipes an collector. Rear shock is down to how much you want to spend. The yss shock that keV fitted looks good for £250. There's not much spending too much because the front end is a major limitation to the bikes handling

Rear damper

Andy. I fitted a fournales to mine got it from M.R Hollands. It cost a few quid but it has been ok. Chris.

hi andy, +1 for keihan exhaust bits... ive had the same system on mine since 1989 and its still going strong! My shock absorber is an OE one from motorworks, it does all i ask of it. HTH

Plus 1 :thumb2
I got an oe damper [ Motorworks] for £100,5 years ago, I think they're now £125.. been perfect solo or two up,:bounce1:thumb2

got an ohlins on mine, and it's fab.

main handling limitation is down steering geometry IMO, making the bike rather skittish and flighty at speed.

They're all like that anyway.

monos, but on paralevers, bmw brought all their engineering experience to bear on the problem, and managed to reduce it to a less worrying, but still prominent weave.

i have a virtually new OEM unit as well, and that works pretty ok one up. loses the plot rather, when loaded.

My Mono was always a nightmare at higher speeds with panniers fitted put a tent on as well and it was downright dangerous. My paras just get a gentle weave with the same loads on.

Thank's for the advice everyone. The Devon Rim Company are rebuilding and restoring the wheels at the moment and I will be ordering Keihan headers and balancer box from Sherlocks in the next week or two. I will probably hold fire on a shock for now and hopefully get a decent second hand one on ebay or somewhere before next summer. If nothing comes up I will probably get a OE shock as it sounds like it is probably good enough for what I need and will leave some money to replace all the bits that were fine until I started restoring the bike: like rusty wheel spindles in a shiny newly restored wheel..................etc etc :blast

To be honest that's exactly what I'd wished I'd done when I paid out £400 for a Wilbers on my Mono :thumb2

I think I have burst the rear shock on my g/s, there is oil all over the back end. Its above the driveshaft too, which leads me to think its the shock.

I am going to try the OE damper from Moto-bins as it looks the cheapest. I don't see the point of putting anything better( more expensive) on it.

Will investigate further tomorrow.

Andy, I assume the bike you are talking about is "lil"
personally and knowing what your other bikes are like,I would thionk that it would be great to keep her as original as poss and that would include black exhausts. I dont think the oem rear suspension would cause you any problems as I dont suppose you will be overloading it with tents, overfilled panniers and the like.I did push a couple of blokes on sports bikes on the twisty road, taunton to Oakhampton fully loaded without problems after a weekend in Wales. Spend the money on the cosmetics, She is a lovely original bike and getting more difficult to find in this state. make a great addition to your other great bikes. :thumb

Wilbers are doing a deal at the moment. If you buy a shock before the end of October they will knock off 10% and give you free postage. Check out the German site, better prices than the U.K.
