Best SOUNDING exhaust?

Also, a high viz jacket and advanced training, won't stop an idiot pulling in front of you at the last second who has not even bothered to look.

Nothing will stop someone pulling out in front of you if they want, least of all a loud can. But FFS, advanced training will help you develop (much faster than simply riding around oblivious and blaming everyone else) the observation and planning skills to predict this kind of thing and plan for it.

Too many people blame everybody else. Yes, I know that the 3rd party pulled out and that this is wrong and they should be shot...but you can help yourself to avoid these situations by thinking. Try it....:thumb

Spot on...

The debate on loud in isolation is worthless.

I'll accept that a louder exhaust may make a difference but if I wanted to iprove my saftey in traffic I'd say you need to prioritise the followind.

Advance obseravtions skills
Your own visability
Your ability to let others know you're there.
Horn - learn how to use it instictivley
Improve the horn
Ticked all the above - Then think about an exhaust, if your that convinced.

Top tip 'stop being a bird and looking for others to validate your naff thinking' ;-)

Seem to have stirred up a hornet's nest here.

I think it unfair to say I'm 'talking bollocks'. If you've had different experience to me, then so be it.

I'm simply saying that when alerting people to my presence, I find a louder bike is preferable. Easier to blip the throttle (or simply ride along and still be heard) than blast my horn and scare the bejeezus out of someone.

A loud pipe will not negate the use of all other safety options or safer riding - I'd be an idiot to suggest that!

Having ridden a Buell with a Remus pipe or my Pegaso Strada with Akrapovic exhausts on for the last 4 or so years through central London traffic compared to 4 years on quieter bikes before- hand I found there was a HUGE difference in how many people took notice of my presence.

I don't care if it was only to say 'listen to that pratt on a loud bike' - as long as they knew I was there, I don't give a damn.

I'm also not stupid enough to think a loud pipe will negate all other factors for situations where an accident may occur... I'm not an idiot, nor am I a riding demi-God - I screw up as much as the next guy.

My comments are based on my experiences. Take it or leave it, but don't tell me I'm wrong. That's the nature of a forum. Everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Back on subject......
Bloke's looking for reasoned recommendations on what exhaust are good for his 1150 ;)
FWIW I've been running mine like this for about 6kmls. Go to halfords and buy the first suitable exhaust end piece you see that'll fit. Then remove your end can and replace with above. Sounds great, removes 6kg's, doesn't bugger fueling and costs pennies, result :thumb2

Didn't say your wrong, just talking bollox.:D

31 years riding in london. And still let cars out of side turnings. :eek

I'm with Luke on this...

Now running the bike with the cat, without the can, with short extension pipe courtesy of Halfords. Saw a couple of pics of specially made end pipes that looked good, but can't find the thread...

Save your money, don't buy a trick exhaust, and spend it on petrol and a ferry/tunnel crossing to France, Belgium, Black Forest, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia...

I'll second the BOS recommendation, :thumbthey seem to be well made, sound nice and they are supplied with a chip that makes an obvious improvement to low and midrange torque.
Overall the fuel consumption actually seemed to improve as well.

Getting back to cans... I always liked the old remus cans on 1100s and 1150s. I have a newer revolution which I don't think sounds quite as good as the old ones.

I used to have a laser can, until my mate crushed it with his vfr wheel, which was loud, but not quite as deep as the old remus cans.

But..... I do get fed=up with the noise sometimes.

If I had a CAT I would go for the stub pipe option, alas my std exhaust is one piece and my "cat" is merely an empty box.

mcgun:banghead:So sorry mate - I have caught that disease that you had last year (doing the f*cking house up - MUST BE DONE FOR CHRISTMAS!!!!!) I think the final part will be a somewhat dodgy lumpy patio if I get any more grief off Verna.:mcgun:mcgun:mcgun

Ha ha ha ...........engagement bliss over already:D

I have been told that I MUST finish the only remaining room (bathroom) BEFORE Xmas.........:(

New ceiling, floor , plastering, window and wiring was done last year but she's not happy that she still hasn't been able to have a bath since we moved in exactly 2 yrs ago .

All the main tiling and painting now been done in last month , finish the grouting today, bath and basin fitted but need plumbing in. She just decided this morning however that all of the bath shold be boxed in and tiled rather than a bath panel and 2 end panels, so more tiling now. :(

See you next year:rolleyes::thumb2

'aint gonna bore you with the list but we have had to do a whole lot more than that since we moved here n April this year - poor Ted came to visit us and had to wipe his feet on the way out!!
I have sooooooo much biking and socialising to catch up on.
