Best stuff for sealing old petrol tanks.

Biggles used to use chewing gum.....any aviator would surely know that?

KREEM tank prep....have a look at the post about an extra tank on an HP2. I gotta go....

Tuesday.

oops - wrong thread:D

i used to think "Pet Seal" was a good idea.
until i got some (4 tins in succession!:spitfire ) past the use by date / but the shop assured it me the makers said it was o.k. to use.....

no. it wasn't.

now - try extracting what looks like a half dozen plastic dog turds welded to the inside of a tank and then REdoing the job.
i needed 2 tins at a time - massive Guzzi tank.

oh that was fun:rolleyes:

here...have some plastic turds...

Not quite the thread but similar. For holes or splits in tanks I use Selleys Knead It which is a 2 part epoxy which comes in a tube that you slice off what you need and mix by squeezing it with your fingers. Lasts for years.:thumb

As an emergency, 'get you home' thing, rub soap on the holes..the petrol makes it go rock hard and it seals beautifully. No idea how long it'd last though .
Hijack over.

soap

Would this make the bike run cleaner?

I'm testing this currently:

http://www.caswelleurope.co.uk/gastank.htm

EPOXY based, up to 3000psi pressure resistance in theory (should be good even for plastic tanks!, ideal for metal tanks).

Will let you know if it works in a few weeks or so if I'm still alive and not blown up :rob

Looks like it's working! :bounce1

No leaks from me 41 litre Acerbis (with TouraCrap trademark on it) tank.

It's very unfortunate that not much info goes around on sealing petrol tanks. Farmers do have methods of sealing water etc tanks, but petrol is another thing - it eats materials, so has to have different approach.

So anyone who has plastic or petrol fuel tank with silly small or bigger (but not holes, those you need to plug with EPOXY separately) leaks, this will do the trick!!!

Caswell Europe had fab serivice too - quick response and fast shipping, less than a week to get the stuff Estonia, Eastern Europe.

I ordered 2 kits of it, only needed one kit for huge 41 litre tank. So anyone who's interested in it, I'll sell the kit cheaper.
