Best tarmac tyre for 1200/1250?

Apologies guys,
I know it’s been covered, and very few of us have been doing a lot of riding lately, however I want to get ready for spring and some new boots are required.
I usually run Pilot Road 5’s however my new 1250 came with the new Michelin Adventures and to be fair they’ve been bloody good for such an open treaded tyre in fact possibly the first tyre that I’ve had on a GS that’s never ever moved sideways in wet or dry!

However it is a dual purpose tyre, so in theory a pure 100% tarmac tyre should be better, so what are the current favourites.......I’m not talking about good wear, I’m talking about feel and grip?

Most of the latest crop of trail tyres are really road tyre compounds with a different tread pattern. You would have to be really riding hard to excede the grip.
The conti TA3 will grip the same as a PR5 but last longer the Pirelli Scorpion is not far behind but has fantastic feel.
More sporty tyres may have less wet grip.
Don't assume that because a tyre is more sporty it is better suited for a GS and the type riding expected of it.
How many tyres have you ridden off the edge of and run out of grip on the road in the dry. I have only done it once, that was on beautifully sufaced 30deg Spanish roads. In the UK, never.

Road tech 01 stuck like s**t on my 1200 and provided this very average rider loads of confidence in corners. I certainly notice the difference compared to my A3s on my 1200 and my AAs on my 1250, even allowing for the fact that in the UK the temperatures are still low. I did feel, however, that a couple of times on greasy roads that they wanted to slide a little from under me. And to state the obvious, they were also a bit slippy on gravel roads. All told, whilst it would be good to hear the thoughts of others, they'd be my first choice again I think.

edit - I mean if I wanted a 100 per cent road focus tyre. Because the 001s are very twitchy on gravel I may well look to try the TA3s.

I have Roadtech 01's on my 790.

yes, yes, I know, its not a GS, but as a tyre ..... I'm super impressed. Also brilliant in the wet too. ...

Just come back from a very damp track day, and took the 790 and not the Tuono simply because of the tyres.

A dual purpose tyre will never handle as well as a pure road tyre because by definition it’s designed to work well on 2 different surfaces. Therefore they are a compromise.

If you’re never going to go off road buy a road tyre. There’s a reason that sports or sports touring bikes don’t come fitted with CTA3’s or Tourance’s.

+1 - by a mile the best 100% road tyre for any bike IMHO, HWM version all the way.

Because I'm a tart I don't run them on the GS, I prefer something with a more ADV type tread

Depends on what characteristics define ‘best’ for you. For some, mileage is most important, some is dry grip when knee dragging at 135mph like Boxerlust ;-), some is feel when wanting handling, etc...

Totally agree. I have these on my 1250GS and they are streets ahead of the stock tyre.

I run Roadtech 01's on my R1250GS - and have to say I'm very impressed if not converted having always sworn by Michelin PR's in the past. I'll certainly be fitting a second set when these wear out (and have to say that the wear rate is very good compared to the Michelins.

Done a bit of Utubing tonite and I see that The TA3’s seem to have won a lot of awards.
