Best time to buy a iMac please?

Cant really afford one but I 'need' one all the same. Is there a 'best time' to buy a Mac because i was thinking of getting one in the holidays.

Is there a new iMac out soon that i'm not aware of , I just want a 21.5 inch 4gb/1TB spec' machine, something fairly basic.

Do Apple do January sales offers? Should I wait until then or should I just buy an Apple refurb'. Was considering 50% dep' and rest on Apple finance but they dont offer finance on refurb machines.

Not a discounted brand usually, better offers can be found from resellers rather than manufacturer themselves. Seldom does such a thing as a 'sale' occur with the fruited ones the odd 24 hour campaign sometimes but little else.

Know anyone in FT/PT Higher Education? If so get them to purchase one for you using their academic discounts - that's where bargains can be found.

+1 for the student discount it can be as much as 15% if you can wangle it :aidan
 
Agree, Education discount (if you can get it) is about as good as you'll get!

A very close family member has worked for Apple for a while - if I could get cheap deals, I would!

Just one thing for those who think Macs are stupidly expensive....took my 27" iMac to the local Apple store recently as it had started putting slight scratches on CDs/DVDs..only slight, but annoying! iMac was 50 weeks old - i.e. almost out of warranty. Next day, Apple called me and said my brand new replacement machine was ready to pick up - plus they had done a full data transfer for me. This was a £1,400 brand new machine as a replacement, after 50 weeks FFS!

Maybe not unique, but not many suppliers would give a brand new replacement, but it kinda puts the whole cost vs value thing into some kind of perspective!

Why new? I got a very nice secondhand iMac from a chap on here for a most reasonable price.

I know I bought my first proper PC, a shop built one, around 1994 before the internet and didnt really see the point of it, couldnt be arsed with the hassle, so I sold it within a couple of months.

Years later the job gave me a laptop for work so didnt need a PC.

When it came time to get on the old world wide web at home in 2001 I wanted numpty level, hassle free computing so I bought an iMac. Took it out the box and surfing the web within minutes. Never crashed, never needed support, never had to speak to my ISP about why I couldn't get on the net blaah blaah blaah . Brilliant :thumb

If you can get yourself to Costco they sometimes have them in there sometimes and its worth a look..
 
Just bought a 27" iMac myself.

Like a breath of fresh air after years of cheap and nasty PC build quality and Windows bloat-ware.

Thinking of getting a Macbook Pro as well and ditching windows completely.

You may see some bargains where re-sellers have some stock but as others have said, Apple is not a brand you often see heavily discounted.

The topcashback site will get you 3% off if buying through the Apple store. Not all items but I think includes iMacs.
