Best ventilated jacket

In june i'm going on a european tour of spain, italy and france and would like recommendations for a ventilated jacket.

I know that there are a few out there and alot of reviews on such things, but first hand experience from fellow tossers is worth far more to me than reading randow reviews on the net.

A definate positive would be a jacket that is waterproof, but can be changed to being well ventilated when things getting warmer on the tour.

I looked at it the other way, I wanted a jacket that was waterproof for the crappy days, but if the sun came out it was easy to get some ventilation. For me the Klim traverse hits the spot, and as such I'd buy another one / its replacement over any other jacket, and I have never bought the same jacket twice in 15 odd years of trying to find the bit of kit that suited me.

Used the jacket down to the south of France and Croatia, and it handled the usual UK weather, and the warmth in Europe.

I guess you're mostly gonna get people saying their jacket is the best........

So here goes, a WMB Twat jacket.

Very cool in full on heat with the liner removed and all vents open. 100% waterproof with the liner in and plenty warm enough in stoopid cold when layered up properly. Some don't like the fact the waterproof liner is in the inside (the jacket itself gets very wet) so I keep a thin army Gortex over jacket in the jackets 'bum pocket' for when it really chucks it down. This also serves as an extra wind break and keeps you even warmer.

Better still is that pristine examples come up 2nd hand on here and ebay on a regular basis all because somebody changes the colour of their bike.

The downside is you'll look like a twat in one (not that that's ever bothered me)

I've just bought the latest BMW Rallye suit. It's very comfortable, and the venting is fantastic. I was concerned about the inner removable waterproof liner, but as above, I'll just chuck something over the top if I'm away on a trip, otherwise if I'm just out for the day, won't bother.

I have an Alpinestars Cordora for winter and a Klim for Summer if it ever arrives .Both excellent .

BMW Airshell Mesh Jacket.

Some will automatically hate it because it is high-viz but it will give the coach/truck drivers plenty of advance warning when you are going up and down the Pyrennean passes.

The waterproof liner is also quilted and rather too hot for riding in the rain in sunny climes. Waterproof over-jacket is probably a better bet - I used the quilted liner once on holiday last year and it's bulky when detached.

I bought a Held Tropic II jacket last year, ideal for summer use and you can get a waterproof liner for the inclement days.

Klim Traverse is good. I use it if I expect to get wet, with the odd hot day.

If I expect to be hot, with the odd wet day, I go the other way - fully vented jacket (Dainese Spedio is my current choice) with rain jacket over the top.

Like the twat suit, the spedio comes with a waterproof liner but I've never understood why anybody would wear a waterproof layer UNDER a porous outer, so i just threw the liner away...

Expensive but waterproof (unlike a twat suit) and tremendous amount of ventilation. Used mine all through heat wave last July vents open good quality wicking compression t shirt, sorted.
In a down poor, vents zipped up dry as a bone
