My top box looked as though it had greasy marks on it so I tried using degreaser on it but it still has smears, what's the best way to clean the aluminium prior to covering in a clear wrap please?

Did mine with the polisher machine and autosol. Gleamed afterwards.

You need to find if it is actually an alloy finish,
It’s more likely a painted finish,so,any abrasive will ruin it.
If you’re just wanting to degrease it you could use acetone or nail polish remover, given it’s used on young ladies fingers it’s about as non toxic as most .
Hmmmmm.
You could also use brake cleaner ( tricluroethlyne)
But that might melt paint.
If it’s just got marks, I’d personally play safe, mebbs a bit of cif onto a wet cloth clean locally then degrease with a mild soap prior to to applying the film.
How times change,if it was an airhead you could use brick acid.😆

What about panel wipe?
That’s probably the best tbh.
As mikeyboy said, it’s all about whether painted or lacquered - and likely it is.
So, you’ll fuck whole box using abrasive cream. Alloy on my Harley is all naked and just use Mothers to good effect.

………I actually remember having similar problem on my old oil head when one of the boxes got scratched by a scooter in Italy. The boxes were just alloy, but had a dull/ matt finish. Anyway, I hit the scratch with Mothers and red scotch-brite. Got the scratch off, but made affected area too shiny!! Lol
Ended up doing whole box x 2!! 🤣🤣

Isopropyl alcohol, then vulcanet wipe. Be careful not to use any abrasive paste, it’ll make the dull surface shiny.

Thank you for all the replies, plenty to go at. @g.s.john and @TIJ650 I've already tried panel wipe, that's the degreaser I have but it just sempt to smear the marks :nenau
